وما من دابة في الأرض ولا طائر يطير بجناحيه إلا أمم أمثالكم
And there is no creature on [the] earth nor bird that flies with its wings except [they are] communities like you.
فأمه هاوية
Then his refuge is the pit.
وأم عيال قد شهدت تقوتهم
And he managed the provisions of his dependents, witnessing their sustenance.
لولا أنها أمة تسبح
Were it not that they are a community that praises [God].
وإن منيت أمات الرباع
And if I am destined, the mothers of the four-year-olds.
لقد ولد الأخيطل أم سوء
Al-Akhytal has given birth to a mother of evil.
وأماتنا أكرم بهن عجائزا
And our mothers, how noble are the old women among them.

And the origin of everything: its root and its support.
بأمهات النجوم الشوابك
By the mothers of the scattered stars.
أم رأسه هاوية فيها

وسلبنا الرمح فيه أمه
And we stripped the spear of its banner.
وأتانا يسعى تفرش أم البيض
And it came to us running, the mother of eggs spreading out.

And it is a wonder for a generation, by your life, O mother... that you were nourished and took another as a mother.
وحشاي من حر الفراق أميم
And my insides are wounded from the heat of separation.
