And he saw a chasm from the mountain before him... visible between the heads of two peaks as a chasm.
يا قاتل الله هذا كيف يهتبل
May God kill this one, how he lies!
اهتبل الصيد: بغاه وتكسبه
To hunt prey: to seek it and acquire it.
اهتبل على ولده: إذا أثكل
To become bereaved of one's children: if one loses them.
اهتبل لأهله: إذا تكسب كهبل وتهبل
To seek for one's family: if one seeks sustenance like 'kabhil' and 'tahabbul'.
وعاث في غابر منها بعثعثة ... نحر المكافئ والمكثور يهتبل
And he caused destruction in what remained of it... the one who retaliates and the one who is multiplied seizes the opportunity.
والصياد يهتبل الصيد؛ أي: يغتنمه ويغتره.
And the hunter seizes the prey; meaning: he captures it and deceives it.
والهبال، كشداد: الكاسب المحتال
And 'al-hibbal', like 'shaddad': the one who gains through cunning.
أو مطعم الصيد هبال لبغيته ... ألفى اباه بذاك الكسب يكتسب
Or the one who feeds on prey, a schemer for his desire... found his father earning through that gain.
هبل أبي عشرين وفقا يشله ... إليهن هيج من رذاذ وحاصب
My father's large camel, twenty, carries him... towards them, stirred by drizzle and hail.
أنا أبو نعامة الشيخ الهبل ... أنا الذي ولدت في أخرى الإبل
I am the father of the ostrich, the tall old man... I am the one born among the last of the camels.

Indeed, the pace of the camels brings one closer to desire... and gathers the wanderers in their haste.
فلأحشأنك مشقصا ... أوسا أويس من الهباله
So I will surely pierce you with an arrowhead... O Aws, O Uwais, from Habaalah.
أبي فارس الحواء يوم هبالة (إذا الخيل في القتلى من القوم تعثر ... )
My father, the skilled horseman, on the day of Habaalah (When the horses stumbled over the slain of the people...)
وهو هبل مال، بالكسر، أي: خائله، مثل إزاء مال، كما في العباب.
And he is 'habil mal', with a kasra, meaning: coveting property, like 'izaa' mal', as in Al-'Abab.
