قـال أبـو عـمـرو: الغـريـل، كـحـذيـم: هـو الغـريـن بالـنـون، هـو الطـيـن يبـقـى فـي أسـفـل الحـوض
Abu Amr said: Al-ghurayll, like 'hudhaym': it is Al-ghurayn with noon, it is the mud that remains at the bottom of the basin.
قـيـل: هـو الغـبـار
It was said: it is dust.
وقـال أبـو زيـد فـي كـتـاب المـطـر: الغـريـل بالـلام والـنـون: الطـيـن يحـمـله السـيـل فـيـبـقـى علـى وجـه الأرض متـشـقـقـا رطـبـا كـان أو يـابـسـا
And Abu Zayd said in the Book of Rain: Al-ghurayll with lam and noon: the mud carried by the flood that remains on the surface of the earth, cracked whether wet or dry.
قـال: الغـريـل: أن يـجـيء السـيـل فـيـثـبـت علـى الأرض، ثم ينـضـب، فـإذا جـف رأيـت الطـيـن رقيـقـا قـد جـف علـى وجـه الأرض قـد تشـقـق.
He said: Al-ghurayll: is when the flood comes and settles on the ground, then recedes, and when it dries, you see thin mud that has dried on the surface of the earth, cracked.
أيـضـا: مخـاط كـل ذي حـافـر، نقـله الصـاغـانـي.
Also: the mucus of every hoofed animal, narrated by Al-Sagani.
أيـضـا: الغـديـر الـذي تبـقـى فـيـه الـدعـامـيـص لا يـقـدر علـى شـربـه، عـن أبـي عـمـرو.
Also: the pool in which larvae remain and cannot be drunk from, from Abu Amr.
