And in Al-Sihah: it is to tie with a rope, and that rope is called 'iqal, like kitāb, it is named so, like 'iqal for what the camel is tied with.
وإبل معكولة أي معقولة.
And 'ma'kūlah' camels, meaning restrained camels.
عكل في الأمر عكلا قال فيه برأيه.
He deliberated in the matter, 'aklan, he gave his opinion on it.
قال الزجاج: عكل عليه الأمر أي التبس وأشكل كأعكل واعتكل
Al-Zajjaj said: The matter became confusing to him, meaning it became perplexing and unclear, like 'a'kala and 'i'takala.
وكذلك حكل واحكل واحتكل.
And likewise hakala, ihkalla, and ihtakalla.
عكل برأيه: حدس، يقال: إنك لتعكل الآن، أي تهرج القول.
He guessed with his opinion: he conjectured. It is said: You are now guessing, meaning you are speaking nonsensically.
عكل فلانا يعكله عكلا: حبسه، عن يعقوب، يقال عكلوهم معكل سوء.
He imprisoned someone, he imprisons him, 'aklan: he detained him, according to Ya'qub. It is said: They imprisoned them in a bad place of detention.

And it is 'awkalat', or the accumulated and overlapping parts of it. Dhu al-Rummah said: (And 'awkalāt' of the old ones faced it... heaps devoid of vegetation, not covering).
أيضا: ضرب من الإدام يؤتدم به، ويجعل في المرق، ومنه قولهم: مرقة عوكلية، كما في العباب.

Also: the ancestor of a tribe characterized by dullness and lack of understanding. And this is said of anyone who is heedless and acts foolishly: 'aklī. His name was 'Auf bin 'Abd Manāh from Al-Rabāb. A slave woman named 'Akl raised him, so he was nicknamed after her.
