قال: فتمت له التورية، لأن رجبا اسمه الأصم، فكأنه يقول: وما درى اللائم العاذل في الهوى أني أصم، لا أسمع الملام

He said: So the double entendre was complete for him, because Rajab's name is Al-Aṣamm, so it is as if he is saying: And the blamer, the 'adhil' in love, did not know that I am deaf, I do not hear blame.

واعتذل الرامي: رمى ثانية، قال ابن السكيت: سمعت الكلابي يقول: رمى فلان فأخطأ ثم اعتذل، أي رمى ثانية

And the archer 'i'tadhala': he shot a second time. Ibn al-Sikkit said: I heard Al-Kilabi say: So-and-so shot and missed, then he 'i'tadhala', meaning he shot a second time.

وفي الأساس: أي عذل نفسه على الخطأ، فرمى ثانية فأصاب
