Abdal, like Ja'far, was omitted by Al-Jawhari here and by the author of Al-Lisan. In Al-'Abab: Abdal ibn Hanzalah ibn Yam ibn Al-Harith ibn Sayyar Al-'Ijli, known as Al-Nahhas, was a notable figure among his people, and the author did not mention him in Nahs. And his paternal uncle, Abdal ibn Al-Harith ibn Sayyar, was a poet.
And Mazid Al-Muharibi, and it is said: Al-'Anazi, and it is said his name was Marthad. And thus it is recorded in Al-Tabsir. And Al-Hakam Al-Kufi: sons of Abdal, two poets. The latter is mentioned in the latter part of the explanation of Al-Qali's Amali by Al-Bakri, and in the explanation of the شاهدs of Al-Mughni. The former is mentioned during the time of Ziyad. It has already been stated under ع ب د that the 'lam' in Abdal is superfluous.
And Al-'Abadilah from the Companions, it is a compound term, formed from two words, like 'Basmala' and its like. There were two hundred and twenty. What was confirmed after reviewing the dictionaries and parts is that their number reached four hundred and thirty-four men, may Allah be pleased with them all, excluding those whose companionship is disputed, who were fifty-three individuals. Thus, the author's limitation to the mentioned number is not without deficiency.
And when they use it generally, they mean four of them: Abdullah ibn Abbas, Abdullah ibn Umar, Abdullah ibn Al-Zubayr, and Abdullah ibn Al-'As. This is how it is in the manuscripts. The correct reading is: ibn Amr ibn Al-'As, may Allah be pleased with them. And Ibn Mas'ud is not among them, as was mistakenly thought. By this, he indicated a refutation of Al-Jawhari, as he included him under ع ب د and counted him among them. The discussion on this has been elaborated previously under the letter 'Dal', so refer to it.
And among what is to be added. Abdal: The name of an ancient city in Hadramawt, which the author mentioned under ع ب د.
Al-'Abdaliyyun: Tribes of Arabs who trace their lineage to their ancestor. Among them is a tribe in Ghatafan, whose ancestor is Abd Allah ibn Ghatafan, and his name was Abd al-'Uzza. When they came to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, he asked: 'Who are you?' They said: 'We are the sons of Abd al-'Uzza.' He said: 'You are the sons of Abd Allah.'
And among them is Jawshan ibn Yazid ibn Dahim Al-'Abdali, the poet. Ibn Al-Athir said: And in Khawlan there is a clan, called the sons of Abd Allah. Among them is Abu Al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn Ka'b ibn Salamah Al-Khawlani Al-'Abdali, from Yunus ibn Abd Al-A'la, and he died in Egypt in the year...
