From Abu Zayd, he said: The camel 'ṣa'ala', 'yaṣ'ulu', with hamza, 'ṣa'alatan', like 'karāmah': if it leaps at people to devour them, or becomes a killer of people. This is how it is in all versions. If it had said: or becomes a killer of them, it would have been more concise. And the text of Abu Zayd is: if it becomes one that paralyzes people and attacks them, then it is a 'ṣa'ūl' camel. And mentioning the camel is an addition.
إذا صار يشل الناس، ويعدو عليهم، فهو جمل صؤول
If it becomes one that paralyzes people and attacks them, then it is a 'ṣa'ūl' camel.
وقال ابن عباد: صئيل الفرس: صهيله، وهو يصئل: أي يصهل.
And Ibn 'Abbad said: The 'ṣa'īl' of the horse is its neighing, and it 'yaṣ'ilu': meaning it neighs.
وهو من باب الإبدال.
