And our Shaykh of Shaykhs, Abu Ali Al-Hasan ibn Mas'ud al-Yusi, refuted that in his commentary on his Dal'iyyah, where he said: Shaykh Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Abd al-Jabbar al-Zarwili, and he was attributed to Shadhila because he used to worship there, and he is not from there, as the author of Al-Qamus assumed.
ولد، رضي الله تعالى عنه، في سنة، ويقال: سنة، بقرية غمارة، من قرى إفريقية، بالقرب من سبتة، ثم انتقل إلى تونس، وسكن شادلة، من قرى إفريقية، ودخل الشرق، وتوفي بصحراء عيذاب، سنة، في شهر ذي القعدة، أبو شوال.
He was born, may God be pleased with him, in the year, and it is said: the year, in the village of Ghumarah, from the villages of Ifriqiya, near Ceuta, then he moved to Tunis, and resided in Shadhila, from the villages of Ifriqiya, and entered the East, and died in the desert of Aydhab, in the year, in the month of Dhu al-Qi'dah, Abu Shawwal.
تمسك بحب الشادلية تلق ما ... تروم فحقق ذاك منهم وحصل
Hold fast to the love of the Shadhiliya, and you will attain what you seek; verify that from them and achieve it.
ولا تحتجب عنهم بلبس لباسهم ... فأنوارهم في السر تعلو وتنجلي
And do not be veiled from them by wearing their clothes, for their lights in secret rise and become clear.
أنا شادلي ما حييت وإن أمت ... فمشورتي في الناس أن يتشدلوا
I am Shadhili as long as I live, and if I die, my counsel to people is to become Shadhili.
تمسك بحب الشادلي فإنهله طرق التسليك في السر والجهر
Hold fast to the love of Al-Shadhili, for he has paths of guidance in secret and in public.
اختصت الشادلية بثلاثة أشياء، لم تكن لأحد قبلهم ولا بعدهم، الأول أنهم مختارون من اللوح المحفوظ، الثاني أن المجذوب منهم يرجع إلى الصحو، الثالث أن القطب منهم دائما أبدا إلى يوم القيامة.
The Shadhiliya are distinguished by three things, which were not for anyone before them nor after them: the first is that they are chosen from the Preserved Tablet, the second is that one who is divinely captivated among them returns to sobriety, and the third is that the Pole among them is always present until the Day of Resurrection.
إذا أراد الله أن ينزل بلاء، سلم منه أمة محمد صلى الله تعالى عليه وسلم، فإن كان عموما سلمت منه الشادلية.
If God intends to send down a tribulation, the community of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is saved from it; if it is general, the Shadhiliya are saved from it.
