I say to the driver of sparse foliage in herds: I fear the calamities of the first ones.

يا ذائديها خوصا بأرسال ولا تذوداها ذياد الضلال

O you who drive them, with sparse foliage, in herds, and do not drive them like the driving of the misguided.

ويقال: جاءت الخيل أرسالا، أي قطيعا قطيعا

And it is said: The horses came in successive groups, meaning herd after herd.

ووقير كثير الرسل قليل الرسل

And a herd, abundant in what is sent to pasture and scarce in what is sent to pasture.

كثير الرسل، يعني الذي يرسل منها إلى المرعى، أراد أنها كثيرة العدد قليلة اللبن

Abundant in what is sent to pasture, meaning that which is sent from it to the pasture; he intended that they are numerous in number but little in milk.

كثير الرسل، أي شديد التفرق في طلب المرعى

Abundant in what is sent to pasture, meaning intensely dispersed in seeking pasture.

والرسل، بالكسر: الرفق والتؤدة

And ar-rusl, with kasra: gentleness and deliberation.

يقال: افعل كذا وكذا على رسلك، أي اتئد فيه

It is said: Do such and such with your gentleness, meaning proceed with deliberation.

على رسلكما إنها صفية بنت حيي

Take it easy (lit. on your gentleness), she is Safiyyah bint Huyayy.

الرسل: اللبن ما كان، وقيده في التوشيح تبعا لأهل الغريب، بالطري

Ar-rusl: milk, whatever it may be, and it was qualified in At-Tawshih, following the scholars of rare words, as fresh.

يقال: كثر الرسل العام، أي كثر اللبن

It is said: The milk was abundant this year, meaning the milk increased.

هلك الفدادون إلا من أعطى في نجدتها ورسلها

The wealthy shall perish except for those who give in their hardship and their milk.

هي قليلة الشحم واللحم واللبن، فنحرها يهون عليه، وبذلها لا يشفق منه

It is little in fat, meat, and milk, so slaughtering it is easy for him, and giving it away does not incur pity.

ورسلها: ولبنها

And ar-rusluha: and its milk.

إلا من أعطى في سمنها وحسنها ووفور لبنها

Except for those who give in its fatness, its beauty, and its abundant milk.

والأحسن أن يكون المراد بالنجدة الشدة والجدب، وبالرسل الرخاء والخصب، لأن الرسل اللبن، وإنما يكثر في حال الخصب

And the best is that 'najdah' means hardship and drought, and 'rusl' means ease and fertility, because 'rusl' is milk, and it only increases in times of fertility.

أرسلوا: كثر رسلهم، أي صار لهم اللبن من مواشيهم

Arasalu: their milk became abundant, meaning they had milk from their livestock.

دعانا المرسلون إلى بلاد بها الحول المفارق والحقاق

The dispatched ones invited us to a land with separation and hardship.

كرسلوا ترسيلا، مكثر لبنهم وشربهم

They became abundant in milk, abundantly, increasing their milk and their drinking.

ولست براعي ثلة قام وسطها طويل العصا غرنيق ضحل مرسل

And I am not a shepherd of a flock whose center is a tall-sticked, wading crane, sending forth.

والرسل، طرف العضد من الفرس، وهما رسلان.

And ar-rusl: the part of the upper arm of a horse, and they are ruslan.

والرسل، بالفتح: السهل من السير

And ar-rusl, with fatha: the easy part of the journey.

يقال: سير رسل، وهو أيضا: البعير السهل السير

It is said: an easy journey, and it is also: a camel that travels easily.

وقد رسل، كفرح، رسلا، محركة ورسالة، ككرامة.

And he proceeded gently, as in فرح, with رسلا (moving) and رسالة (message).

والرسل أيضا: المترسل من الشعر

And ar-rusl also: the flowing part of poetry.

والرسلة، بالفتح: الكسل

And ar-rasalah, with fatha: laziness.

يقال: رجل فيه رسلة، أي كسل.

It is said: A man has رسلة in him, meaning laziness.

ناقة مرسال: سهلة السير، من نوق مراسيل

A مرسال she-camel: easy to travel with, from easy-going she-camels.

المراسي: الخفاف، التي تعطيك ما عندها عفوا

Al-marasi: the light ones, which give you what they have willingly.

أمست سعاد بأرض لا يبلغها غلا العتاق النجيبات المراسي

Su'ad spent the night in a land that only the swift, noble, and easy-going camels can reach.

لا يكون الفتى مرسالا: أي مرسل اللقمة في حلقه، أو مرسل الغصن من يده، إذا مضى في موضع شجير، ليصيب صاحبه

A young man is not مرسال: meaning sending the morsel down his throat, or releasing the branch from his hand, if he goes into a thorny place, to reach his companion.

والمرسال أيضا: سهم صغير، كذا في النسخ، وفي العباب: قصير.

And al-mirsal also: a small arrow, as in the manuscripts, and in Al-Abab: short.

أنا أرسلنا الشياطين على الكافرين تؤزهم أزا، أي سلطوا عليهم، وقيضوا لهم بكفرهم

Indeed, We have sent the devils upon the disbelievers, inciting them, meaning they were unleashed upon them and appointed for them due to their disbelief.

أنا خلينا الشياطين وإياهم، فلم نعصمه من القبول منهم

We let the devils loose upon them, and did not protect them from accepting from them.

الإرسال: الإطلاق، والتخلية

Al-irsāl: unleashing, and setting free.

الإرسال: الإهمال، وهو قريب من الإطلاق والتخلية.

Al-irsāl: neglect, and it is close to unleashing and setting free.

الإرسال، أيضا: التوجيه

Al-irsāl, also: directing.

وبه فسر إرسال الله عز وجل أنبياءه عليهم السلام، كأنه وجه إليهم أن أنذروا عبادي

And with this is interpreted Allah's sending of His prophets, peace be upon them, as if He directed them: 'Warn My servants'.

أشهد أن محمدا رسول الله

I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

أعلم وأبين أن محمدا متابع الإخبار عن الله عز وجل

I know and make clear that Muhammad is following the reporting from Allah, the Almighty.

لو كان في قلبي كقدر قلامة حبا لغيرك ما أتاها أرسلي

If there were in my heart love for anyone other than you, even the size of a fingernail, my messengers would not have reached it.

جاءتنا أرسل السلطان

The Sultan's messengers came to us.

والرسول: الموافق لك في النضال ونحوهن

And ar-rasul: one who matches you in wrestling and similar activities.

فقولا: إنا رسول رب العالمين

So say: 'Indeed, we are messengers of the Lord of the worlds'.

Indeed, We are messengers of the Lord of the worlds.

ألكني إليهما وخير الرسل أعلمهم بنواحي الخبر

المرأة الكثيرة الشعر في ساقيها، الطويلته، كالرسلة

The woman with abundant hair on her shins, tall, like ar-rasalah.

ناقة مرسال: رسلة القوائم، كثيرة الشعر في ساقيها، طويلته.

A مرسال she-camel: with hairy legs, abundant hair on her shins, tall.

المراسل من النساء: التي تراسل الخطاب، أو هي التي فارقها زوجها بأي وجه كان، مات أو طلقها

Al-marasil from women: she who exchanges messages with suitors, or she whose husband has separated from her in any way, died or divorced her.

أن رجلا من الأنصار تزوج امرأة مراسلا، يعني ثيبا

That a man from the Ansar married a مرسال woman, meaning a previously married woman.

يمشي هبيرة بعد مقتل شيخه مشي المراسل أوذنت بطلاق

Hubayrah walks after the killing of his sheikh with the walk of the مرسال woman, whose divorce has been announced.

الراسلان: الكتفان، أو عرقان فيهما

Ar-rasilan: the shoulder blades, or two veins in them.

ألقى الكلام على رسيلاته، أي تهاون به، تصغير رسلات، جمع رسل.

He cast the words upon its small groups, meaning he was careless about it, a diminutive of rusulat, plural of rusl.

أم رسالة: الرخمة، كنية لها.

And ar-rasil: the spacious, and the delicate thing, also.

And ar-rasil: the Arab stallion sent among the ewes to mount them.

هذا رسيل بني فلان، أي فحل إبلهم

This is the rasīl of the Banu Fulan, meaning their camel stallion.

وقد أرسل بنو فلان رسيلهم، كأنه فعيل بمعنى مفعل، من أرسل، كمنذر ونذير، ومسمع وسميع.

And the Banu Fulan have sent their rasīl, as if it is fa'īl meaning maf'ūl, from arsala, like munthir and nadhīr, and musmi' and samī'.
