'Al-ḥiddāl' like 'siḥāb': trees in the desert, narrated by Al-Azhari. He said: Amr ibn Humayl al-Hudhali mentioned it, and said:

And 'al-ḥudāl' with damma: the smooth. It is said: the bow has 'ḥudāl', from Ibn ʻAbbād, and it was mentioned previously.

And Ibn Habib said: Among the Azd is Ḥadīlah ibn Muʻāwiyah ibn ʻAmr ibn ʻAdī ibn Māzin ibn Al-Azd. So ponder that.

وحديلاء بالضم ممدودا: ع. يقال: ركية حدلاء: أي مخالفة عن قصدها نقله الصاغاني.

And 'ḥudaylā'' with damma, extended: a place name. It is said: a well 'ḥadlā'' meaning deviating from its intended course, narrated by Al-Sāghānī.

قال ابن عباد: الحدل، بالكسر والإدل كذلك: وجع العنق من تعادى الوسادة، قال الصاغاني: والتركيب يدل على الميل والميل، وقد شذ عنه الحودل، لذكر القردان.

Ibn ʻAbbād said: 'Al-ḥidl', with kasra, and 'al-idl' likewise: neck pain from a pillow. Al-Sāghānī said: The root indicates leaning and inclination, and 'al-ḥawdal' is an exception to this, due to the mention of apes.
