And the origin is: hubala, with a kasra on the lam, because every plural whose third letter is an alif has the letter after it vocalized with a kasra, like masajid and ja'afar.
ثم أبدلوا من الياء المنقلبة من ألف التأنيث ألفا، فقالوا: حبالى، بفتح اللام، ليفرقوا بين الألفين
Then they substituted an alif for the ya' that was inverted from the feminine alif, so they said: hubala, with a fatha on the lam, to distinguish between the two alifs.
ومننه قول أعرابية: أجد عيني هجانة، وشفتي ذبانة، وأراني حبلانة
And among them is the saying of a Bedouin woman: I find my eyes to be pure, my lips to be like a fly's, and I appear to myself to be pregnant.
نهى عن بيع حبل الحبلة
He prohibited the sale of 'habl al-hablah'.
أو ذيخة حبلى مجح مقرب
Or a pregnant, heavy, and close-to-giving-birth she-camel.
قال أهل اللغة: الحبل: للآدميات، والحمل لغيرهن
The linguists said: Al-habl is for humans, and al-haml is for others.
والنسبة إلى حبلى: حبلي بالضم وحبلوي وحبلاوي كما في الصحاح
And the nisba to hubla is: hubli with damma, hublawi, and hublawi, as in Al-Sihah.
أي بيع ما في بطن الناقة

وجعل حملها قبل أن تبلغ حبلا

وكانت الجاهلية تتبايع على حبل الحبلة في أولاد أولادها، في بطون الغنم الحوامل
And the pre-Islamic Arabs used to trade based on 'habl al-hablah' concerning the offspring of their offspring, in the wombs of pregnant sheep.
فالحبل: يراد به ما في بطن النوق، والحبل الآخر: حبل الذي في بطن الناقة، أدخلت فيها الهاء للمبالغة، كما تقول: نكحة وسخرة
So, al-habl refers to what is in the wombs of she-camels, and the other al-habl: is the 'habl' of that which is in the she-camel's womb; the ha' was added for exaggeration, as you say: nikha and sakhrah.

كان ذلك في محبل فلان: أي وقت حبل أمه به
That was during so-and-so's conception: meaning the time his mother conceived him.
هو موضع الحبل من الرحم، والأعرف: في المهبل بالهاء
It is the place of conception in the womb, and more commonly: in the mahbal with ha'.
حبل الزرع تحبيلا: قذف بعضه على بعض
The piling up of crops (tahbeel): is when some of it is thrown upon another.
أي اكتنز السنبل بالحب، وهو مجاز
Meaning the ear of grain is full of seeds, and this is metaphorical.

And this is metaphorical, and its origin is in a bird when it is fettered, as in Al-Asas.
ومننه قول لبيد رضي الله تعالى عنه: (ولقد أغدو وما يعدمني ... صاحب غير طويل المحتبل)
And among them is the saying of Labid, may God Almighty be pleased with him: (And I may go out and not be lacking... a companion not of long fetlock).
رجل من أصحاب طليحة بن خويلد، أصيب بالردة
A man from the companions of Tulaibah ibn Khuwailid, who was afflicted by apostasy.
فإن تك أذواد أصبن ونسوة ... فلن تذهبوا فرغا بقتل حبال

It is the braided one, and from it is the hadith of Qatadah: The Dajjal is of medium height, with a clear forehead, shining incisors, with 'muhabbil' hair, meaning each lock of his hair is like a rope because he makes it into strands.
الحبل هو الوريد، فأضيف إلى نفسه، لاختلاف اللفظين
Al-habl is the vein, so it is added to itself, due to the difference in the two terms.
والوريد: عرق بين الحلقوم والعلباوين
And the vein: is an artery between the throat and the jugular veins.

حبلته الحبالة: علقته
The snare caught it (habbalathu al-hibalah): it became entangled.
واستعاره الراعي للعين، وأنها علقت القذى، كما علقت الحبالة الصيد
And the shepherd used it metaphorically for the eye, and that it caught debris, just as a snare catches prey.
وبات بثدييها الرضيع كأنه ... قذى حبلته عينه لا ينيمها
And the infant slept on her breasts as if... debris caught by his eye, not letting him sleep.
احتبله الموت احتبالا، وهو مجاز
Death encompassed him (ihtabalahu al-mawt ihtibalan), and this is metaphorical.
احتبلته فلانة: شغفته، كحبلته، وهو مجاز
So-and-so captivated him (ihtabalathu fulanah): she made him infatuated, like habbalathu, and this is metaphorical.
