The drink is mabwalah, like marhalah: meaning its abundance compels you to urinate.

والبال: الحال التي تكترث بها، ولذلك يقال: ما باليت بكذا بالة: أي ما اكترثت به، ومنه قوله تعالى: وأصلح بالهم

And al-bal: the state in which you are concerned. Therefore, it is said: 'I did not care about such-and-such with a balah': meaning I did not care about it. And from this is the saying of God Almighty: 'And set right their state of mind'.

وفي الحديث: كل أمر ذي بال لا يبدأ فيه بحمد الله فهو أبتر أي شريف يحتفل له، ويهتم به.

And in the Hadith: 'Every important matter that is not begun with praise to God is cut off', meaning it is noble, celebrated, and cared for.

ويقال: هو كاسف البال: أي سيئ الحال، قال امرؤ القيس:

And it is said: 'He is kasif al-bal': meaning in a bad state. Imru' al-Qais said:

يعبر بالبال عن الحال الذي ينطوي عليه الإنسان، وهو الخاطر فيقال: ما خطر كذا - ببالي: أي خاطري.

Al-Mufaddal said: Al-bal: the heart. Imru' al-Qais said:

والبال: الحوت العظيم من حيتان البحر، وليس بعربي، كما في الصحاح، يدعى جمل البحر، وهو معرب وال كما في العباب.

And al-bal: the great whale from the whales of the sea, and it is not Arabic, as in Al-Sihah. It is called 'sea camel', and it is an Arabized word, as in Al-Abab.

البال: المر الذي يعتمل به في أرض الزرع.

Al-bal: the plow with which one works the arable land.

ورخاء البال: سعة العيش. ويقال: هو رخي البال: إذا لم يشتد عليه الأمر، ولم يكترث.

And rahaa' al-bal: ease of living. And it is said: 'He is rakhi al-bal': if matters do not become severe for him, and he is not concerned.

والبالة بهاء: القارورة، أيضا: الجراب الصغير أو الضخم، جمعها: بال.

And al-balah (with ta' marbuta): the bottle, also: the small or large bag, its plural is 'bal'.

وبه فسر قول أبي ذؤيب الهذلي: (كأن عليها بالة لطمية ... لها من خلال الدأيتين أريج)

And with this is interpreted the saying of Abu Dhu'ayb Al-Hudhali: (As if she had a Latmiyah perfume container... emitting a fragrance from between her two sides).

وبال الشحم: ذاب وأنشد ابن الأعرابي:

And fat melted. Ibn Al-A'rabi recited:

يقال لنطف البغال: أبوال البغال

The semen of mules is called: 'abwal al-bighal'.

ويشبه به السراب لأن بول البغل كاذب لا يلقح، والسراب كذلك، قال:

And the mirage is likened to it because mule urine is false and does not fertilize, and so is the mirage. He said:

لأبوال البغال بها نقيع

For the urines of mules, there is a pool in it.

من سرو حمير أبوال البغال به ... أنى تسديت وهنا ذلك البينا)

From the heights of Himyar, the urines of mules are in it... How did you find strength, and that is the clear evidence).

وما أباليه بالة موضعه في المعتل.

And 'ma ubalih' balah is its place in the defective verbs.

وأبوال البغال: طريق اليمن، لا يأخذه إلا البغال، وقد تقدم في ب غ ل.

And 'abwal al-bighal': the road of Yemen, which only mules take, and it has been mentioned under 'b-gh-l'.

وبعير بوال: كثير البول لهزاله، ومنه الحديث: فهلا ناقة شصوصا أو ابن لبون بوالا.

And a camel 'bawwal': one with frequent urination due to its emaciation. And from this is the Hadith: 'Why not a stubborn camel or a two-year-old male camel that urinates frequently'.

وقال ابن الأعرابي: شحمة بوالة: إذا أسرع ذوبانها.

And Ibn Al-A'rabi said: 'shahmatun bawwalah': if its melting is rapid.

والمبال: الفرج، ومنه حديث عمار: مبال في مبال.

And al-mabwal: the vulva. And from this is the hadith of Ammar: 'vagina within vagina'.

وقال الهوازني: البال: الأمل، وهو كاسف البال: إذا ضاق عليه أمله.

And Al-Hawazini said: Al-bal: hope. And he is 'kasif al-bal': if his hope is constrained.

والبالة: الرائحة والشمة، عن أبي سعيد الضرير، قال الأزهري: هو من قولهم: بلوته: أي شممته واختبرته، وإنما كان أصله: بلوة، ولكنه قدم الواو قبل اللام، فصيرها ألفا، كقولهم: قاع وقعا.

And al-balah: the smell and the sniff, from Abu Saeed Al-Dharrir. Al-Azharī said: It is from their saying: 'balawtuhu': meaning I smelled it and tested it. Its origin was 'balwah', but they brought the 'waw' before the 'lam', making it an 'alif', as in their saying: 'qa'a' for 'waqa'.

والبال: جمع بالة، وهي عصا فيها زج تكون مع صيادي البصرة، يقولون: قد أمكنك الصيد فألق البالة.

And al-bal: plural of 'balah', which is a staff with a spike in it, used by the fishermen of Basra. They say: 'The hunt is within your reach, so cast the balah'.

ومننه تسمية العامة للسيف الصغير المستطيل: بالة.

And from this is the common people's naming of the small, elongated sword: 'balah'.

وأمر ذو بال: أي ذو خطر وشأن، ومنه الحديث: كل أمر ذي بال.

And 'amrun dhu bal': meaning of importance and significance. And from this is the Hadith: 'Every important matter'.

وأبال الخيل واستبالها: وقفها للبول، يقال: لنبيلن الخيل في عرصاتكم، وقال الفرزدق:

And 'abala al-khayl' and 'istabalaha': to make the horses urinate, by stopping them. It is said: 'We will make the horses urinate in your courtyards.' And Al-Farazdaq said:

وإن أمرأ يسعى يخبب زوجتي ... كساع إلى أسد الشرى يستبيلها) أي يأخذ بولها في يده.

And a man who strives to corrupt my wife... is like one who runs to a lion of the wild, seeking to make it urinate) meaning he takes its urine in his hand.

وبولاة، أو بولان: موضع جاء ذكره في سنن ابن ماجه، في الفتن والملاحم.

And 'Bawlah', or 'Bawlan': a place whose mention came in the Sunan of Ibn Majah, in the sections on tribulations and epics.
