They are 'ahlāt' around Qays ibn 'Asim; when they travel by night, they call out 'Kawthar'.

The 'ahl' for the house: its inhabitants.

وكان يأمز أهله بالصلاة والزكاة
And he used to enjoin upon his family prayer and alms.
فأهل الرجل في الأصل: من يجمعه وإياهم مسكن واحد، ثم تجوز به
The 'ahl' of a man originally: those whom a single dwelling unites him with, then it was used metaphorically.
مكان مأهول: فيه أهله

وقدما كان مأهولا فأمسى مرتع العفر
And long ago it was inhabited, and now it is the grazing ground of the sand-grouse.

He forbade eating the meat of domestic donkeys.
مرحبا وأهلا
Welcome, and (you have come to) family.
أتيت أهلا لا غرباء ولا أجانب فاستأنس ولا تشتوحش
You have come to family, not strangers or foreigners, so feel at ease and do not be alarmed.

لا بل كلي يا مي - واستأهلي إن الذي أنفقت من ماليه
Rather, eat, O Mayy - and 'ista'hilī' (take your fill) of what you have spent of his wealth.
