Hope (ar-raja') is between aspiration (al-amal) and greed (at-tame'), for the hopeful person might fear that their desired outcome will not be achieved, so it is not used in the sense of fear.

ويقال لما في القلب مما ينال من الخير: أمل، ومن الخوف: إيحاش، ولما لا يكون لصاحبه، ولا عليه: خطر، ومن الشر وما لا خير فيه: وسواس.
