And the plural is الصعاليك, and Al-Layth recited: Indeed, your following a bad master will lead to... the destitute following you, unless he acquires wealth.
وتصعلك الرجل: افتقر وأنشد الجوهري لحاتم طيئ: عنينا زمانا بالتصعلك والغنى ... فكلا سقاناه بكأسيهما الدهر
And the man became poor: he became destitute, and Al-Jawhari recited for Hatim al-Ta'i: We experienced destitution and wealth for a time... and time gave us both to drink from its cups.
وتصعلكت الإبل: طرحت أوبارها كما في الصحاح: زاد غيره: وانجردت
And the camels became تصعلکت: they shed their hair, as in Al-Sihah; others added: and became bare.
وقال شمر: إذا دقت قوائمها من السمن
And Shamir said: when their legs became thin from fatness.
قد تصعلكن في الربيع وقد ق ... رع جلد الفرائض الأقدام
They became lean in spring, and the hooves had struck the skin of the legs.
قال: تصعلكن: دققن وطار عفاؤها عنها، والفريضة: موضع قدم الفارس.
He said: تصعلكن: they became thin and their hair flew off them, and al-faridah: the place of the rider's foot.
وصعاليك العرب: ذؤبانها.
And the صعاليك of the Arabs: their wolves.
وعروة الصعاليك: هو ابن الورد لقب به لأنه كان يجمع الفقراء في حظيرة فيرزقهم مما يغنمه
And Urwah al-Sa'alik: he is Ibn al-Ward, nicknamed so because he used to gather the poor in a pen and provide for them from what he plundered.
المصعلك، من الأسنمة: التي كأنما حدرجت أعلاه حدرجة وكأنما صعلكت أسفله بيدك ثم مطلته صعدا
