And Ibn al-A'rābī said: it is the sound of its testicles when they rattle in its sheath, and al-Azhari approved it.

وَفُعِلَهُ كَوَعَدَ يُقَالُ: وَعَقَ يَعِقُ وَعْقًا وَوَعَاقًا

And its verb, like wa'ada, is said: wa'aqa ya'iqu wa'qan wa wa'āqan.

وَرَجُلٌ وَعِقٌّ، كَعَدْلٍ، وَصَخْرَةٍ، وَكَتِفٍ: شِرْسٌ ضَيِّقٌ سَيِّءُ الْخُلُقِ عَنِ ابْنِ الأَعْرَابِيِّ.

And a man wa'iqun, like 'adl, ṣakhrāh, and katif: is harsh, narrow-minded, and of bad character, according to Ibn al-A'rābī.

مَحْمُودٌ شَمَائِلُهُ ... عِنْدَ الْحِمَالَةِ لَا كَزٌّ وَلَا وَعِقٌ

His character is praiseworthy... when carrying burdens, neither stubborn nor ill-tempered.

وَيُرْوَى: وَلَا عَوْقٌ، وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ.

And it is narrated: nor 'awqun, and it has preceded.

وَقَالَ الْفَرَّاءُ: رَجُلٌ وَعِقَةٌ: ضَجِرٌ مُتَبَرِّمٌ.

And al-Farra' said: a man wa'iqatun: is irritable and discontented.

وَبِهِ وَعَقَةٌ أَيْ: شَرَاسَةٌ وَشِدَّةُ خُلُقٍ

And in him is wa'aqatun, meaning: harshness and a difficult disposition.

وَأَصْلُ الْوَعْقِ: الْعَجَلَةُ وَالسُّرْعَةُ.

And the origin of al-wa'qu: is hastiness and speed.

يُقَالُ: وَعَقْتَ عَلَيَّ يَا رَجُلُ، كَوَرِثْتَ أَيْ: عَجَّلْتَ عَلَيَّ.

It is said: You were hasty towards me, O man, like you inherited, meaning: you hurried towards me.

وَأَنْتَ وَعِقٌّ، أَيْ: نَزِقٌ.

And you are wa'iqun, meaning: quick-tempered.

وَمَا أَوْعَقَكَ أَيْ: مَا أَعْجَلَكَ

And mā aw'aqaka, meaning: what made you hasty?
