والفهقة: عظم عند مركب العنق، وهو أول الفقار كما في الصحاح.
And the 'fahqa': is a bone at the base of the neck, which is the first vertebra, as in Al-Sihah.
أو عظم عند فائق الرأس، مشرف على اللهاة قاله الليث، وأنشد:
Or a bone near the top of the head, overlooking the uvula, said Al-Layth, and he recited:
وتضرب الفهقة حتى تندلق
And the 'fahqa' is struck until it protrudes.
والفاهقة: الطعنة التي تفهق بالدم أي: تتصبب.
And the 'fahiqa': is the stab wound that gushes with blood, meaning: it spills.
والفهق: اتساع كل شيء ينبع منه ماء أو دم.
And 'al-fahq': is the widening of everything from which water or blood flows.
والفيهق كصيقل: الواسع من كل شيء حتى يقال مفازة فيهق.
And 'faihaq' like 'sayqal': is the wide of everything, to the extent that a desert is called 'faihaq'.
ويقال: بئر مفهاق أي: كثيرة الماء.
And it is said: a well is 'mafhaq', meaning: abundant in water.
على كل مفهاق خسيف غروبها ... تفرغ في حوض من الماء أسجلا
Upon every water-abundant, shallow pool, its water... pours into a basin of collected water.
وأفهقه أي: السقاء: ملأه كأفحقه على البدل.
And 'afhaqahu', meaning: the waterskin: he filled it, like 'afhaqahu' by substitution.
فنزعنا في الحوض حتى أفهقنا.
So we drew water into the basin until we filled it.
وأفهق البرق وغيره: اتسع، كتفهق عن ابن الأعرابي.
And lightning and other things 'afhaqa': expanded, like 'tafahqa', according to Ibn Al-A'rabi.
في هواء منفتق، وجو منفهق
In an open space, and an expanded atmosphere.
فإذا دنا منها انفهقت له الجنة، أي: اتسعت.
And when it drew near to it, Paradise opened up for him, meaning: it widened.
وانشق عنها صحصحان المنفهق
And from it split open the vast expanse of the open space.
وتفيهق في كلامه: إذا تنطع وتوسع فيه، قاله الفراء.
And 'tafayhaqa' in his speech: means to be verbose and expand upon it, said Al-Farra'.
وأبعدكم مني مجالس يوم القيامة الثرثارون المتفيهقون، قيل: يا رسول الله وما المتفيهقون قال: المتكبرون.
And furthest from me in seating on the Day of Resurrection will be the excessively talkative, the boastful. It was asked: O Messenger of Allah, and who are the boastful? He said: The arrogant.
تفيهق بالعراق أبو المثنى ... وعلم قومه أكل الخبيص
Abu Al-Muthanna boasted in Iraq... and taught his people to eat Al-Khabis.
فإذا دنا منها انفهقت له الجنة، أي: اتسعت.
And when it drew near to it, Paradise opened up for him, meaning: it widened.
فهق الصبي كعني: سقطت فهقته عن لهاته.
'Fahiqa' the child, like 'ani': his 'fahqa' fell from his palate.
أرض تنفهق مياها عذابا.
