رمقه يرمقه رمقا: إذا لحظه لحظا خفيفا
He looked at him, he looks at him, a glance: if he glanced at him with a light glance.
ورجل يرموق أي: ضعيف البصر
And a man is yarmuq, meaning: weak-sighted.
الرامق كصاحب: الطائر الذى ينصبه الصياد ليقع عليه البازي فيصيده
Al-ramiq, like 'sahib': the bird that the hunter sets up for the falcon to land on and catch.
ويقال: مالي في عيشه وما عيشه إلا رمقة، بالضم
And it is said: I have nothing in his life, and his life is nothing but a meager sustenance, with dammah.
ورماق ككتاب، رماق. مثل سحاب، ورمق مثل جبل الثالثة عن يعقوب أي: بلغة، أو قليل يمسك الرمق
And rimāq like kitāb, rimāq. Like saḥāb, and ramq like jabal, the third according to Ya'qub, meaning: enough to suffice, or a little that sustains life.
ما وجز معروفك بالرماق ولا مؤاخاتك بالمذاق
Your brief kindness is not with meager sustenance, nor your brotherhood with taste.
ومن كلامهم: موت لا يجر إلى عار خير من عيش في رماق
And among their sayings: A death that does not lead to shame is better than a life of meager sustenance.
وحبل أرماق أي: ضعيف خلق
And a rope of armāq, meaning: weakly made.
والرمق، بضمتين: الفقراء المتبلغون بالرماق: للقليل من العيش
And Al-ramaq, with two dammahs: the poor who subsist on meager sustenance: for a little of life.
والرمق أيضا: الحسدة، واحده رامق، ورموق وهو: الذي يرمق الناس بعينه شزرا وحسدا
And Al-ramaq also: the envious, its singular is rāmiq, and ramūq, which is: he who looks at people with his eye askance and with envy.
والرمق كركع: الضعيف من الرجال
And Al-ramaq, like 'raka': the weak among men.
والترميق: العمل يعمله الرجل ولا يحسنه وقد يتبلغ به وهو يرمق في الشيء: لا يبالغ في عمله
And Al-tarmīq: the work a man does and does not do well, yet it suffices him, and he is yarmuq in the matter: he does not excel in his work.
ويقال: رمق على مزادتيك، أي: رمهما مرمة يتبلغ بها
And it is said: repair your two waterskins, meaning: repair them with a repair that suffices.
وهو مرمق العيش، ومرمقه، كمعظم، ومحمر الأولى عن ابن دريد، وفسرها بقوله: ضيقه والثانية عن أبي عبيد، وفسرها بقوله: أو خسيسه دونه
And he is in a difficult livelihood, and its meager sustenance, like 'mu'azzam', and 'muḥammar', the first from Ibn Duraid, who explained it as: its narrowness, and the second from Abu Ubaid, who explained it as: or its inferior, below it.
أضرعت الضان فربق ربق، ورمدت المعزى فرمق رمق
The ewes became thin, so they were milked intermittently, and the goats became thin, so they were milked sparingly.
ترميق الكلام: تلفيقه
Tarmīq of speech: its fabrication.
رمق الكلام: لفقه شيئا فشيئا
Ramq of speech: to piece it together little by little.
ارمق الإهاب، كاحمر: إذا رق
To make the hide thin, like 'iḥmarra': if it becomes thin.
ومنهم: فيرمق أمر ولم يغملوا
And among them: so a matter was left incomplete and they did not neglect it.
ارمق الشيء: ضعف
To make a thing weak: it becomes weak.
وارمقت الغنم: إذا ماتت
And the sheep became armaqat: if they died.
وترمق اللبن أي: شربه قليلا قليلا
And to drink the milk: meaning to drink it little by little.
وترمق الماء وغيره: إذا حساه حسوة بعد حسوة أخرى
And to drink water and other liquids: if he sips it sip after sip.
والمرامق: من لم يبق في قلبه من مودتك إلا قليل
And Al-marāmiq: those in whose hearts nothing of your affection remains but a little.
وصاحب مرامق داجيته دهنته بالدهن أو طليته على بلال نفسه طويته
And a companion of few affections, whom you befriended, you greased him with oil or smeared him on Bilal himself, you folded him.
هذه النخلة ترامق بعرق، أي: لا تحيا ولا تموت
This palm tree is in a state of limbo, meaning: it neither lives nor dies.
رامق الأمر مرامقة: إذا لم يبرمه
He observed the matter with observation: if he did not finalize it.
والأمر ما رامقته ملهوجا يضويك ما لم تجن منه منضجا
And the matter is what you observed it in a state of exhaustion, it will harm you unless you gain from it a ripe outcome.
ما لم تضمروا الرماق
As long as you do not harbor hypocrisy.
وهو قريب من معنى المداراة لأن المنافق مدار بالكذب
And it is close to the meaning of dissimulation because the hypocrite is guarded by lies.
ومن كلامهم: موت لا يجر إلى عار خير من عيش في رماق
And among their sayings: A death that does not lead to shame is better than a life of meager sustenance.
ارماق هزالا: هلك
To perish from leanness: to perish.
ارماقت غنمه: إذا هلكت هزالا
His sheep perished: if they perished from leanness.
ارماق الحبل أي: ضعف
Armāq of the rope, meaning: weakness.
كأنهم من رامق ومقصد أعجاز نخل الدقل المعصد
As if they are from the weak and the intended, the lower parts of the tall, laden date palms.
وأمسك رمقه
And he sustained his life.
وفم يرمقونه بشيء، أي: قدر ما يمسك رمقه
And a mouth they sustain with something, meaning: enough to sustain his life.

And Al-marāmiq: he who is at the last breath.

And so-and-so manages his life: if he is careful with it.
