حذق الصبي القرآن، أو العمل، كضرب، وعلم، حذقا، وحذاقا، وحذاقة ويكسر الكل، أو الحذاقة، بالكسر الاسم: إذا تعلمه كله، ومهر فيه
The boy mastered the Quran, or a task, like striking and knowing, with mastery, and proficiency, and skill, and all of them are pronounced with vowelization, or al-ḥidhāqah, with kasra, is the noun: if he learned it all and became expert in it.
فهو حاذق من حذاق
And he is proficient, one of the proficient ones.
وفي حديث زيد بن ثابت فما مر بي نصف شهر حتى حذقته أي: عرفته، وأتقنته
And in the tradition of Zayd ibn Thabit: 'Not half a month passed until I mastered it,' meaning: I knew it and perfected it.
وهو مجاز، مأخوذ كل من الحذق، وهو القطع، كما صرح به الزمخشري
And it is metaphorical, all taken from al-ḥadhq, which is cutting, as al-Zamakhshari clarified.
ويقال: هذا يوم حذاقه بالكسر: أي يوم ختمه للقرآن
And it is said: 'This is the day of its mastery (with kasra),' meaning the day of its completion of the Quran.
وحذق الشيء يحذقه بالكسر حذاقة وحذقا بفتحهما: إذا قطعه، أو مده ليقطعه بمنجل ونحوه حتى لابقى منه شيء
And something is cut (yaḥdhiquhu with kasra) with mastery (ḥidhāqatan) and cutting (ḥadhqan with both vowels): if it cuts it, or stretches it to be cut with a sickle or the like until nothing remains of it.
فهو حاذق: قاطع
And he is a cutter: one who cuts.
(يرى ناصحا فيما بدا فإذا خلا ... فذلك سكين علا الحلق حاذق)
(He appears sincere in what is evident, but when he is alone... that is a sharp knife that cuts the throat.)
وحذيق محذوق: مقطوع
And cut (ḥadhīq) and cut (maḥdhūq): meaning cut.
(أنورا سرع ماذا يا فروق ... وحبل الوصل منتكث حذيق)
(O Furuq, what is this quickness?... And the bond of connection is a cut string.)
ومن المجاز: حذق الخل حذوقا كقعود وحذقا بالفتح ويكسر: إذا حمض فلذع باللسان، وكذلك اللبن
And from metaphor: vinegar becomes sour (yaḥdhūqu ka-qu'ūd) with sourness (ḥudhūqan) and cutting (ḥadhqan with fatḥa and kasra): if it becomes sour and stings the tongue, and likewise milk.
ومن المجاز: حذق الرباط، يد الشاة: إذا أثر فيها بالقطع، عن ابن دريد
And from metaphor: the tether affects the sheep's leg: if it leaves a mark on it by cutting, from Ibn Duraid.
وحذق الخل فاه: إذا حمزه عن ابن دريد وقبضه وكذلك اللبن، والنبيذ، ونحوهما
And the vinegar stung his mouth: if it made it pungent from Ibn Duraid and constricted it, and likewise milk, and nabidh, and similar things.
ورجال من الأقارب كانوا ... من حذاق هم الرؤوس الخيار
And men from the relatives were... among the best of them, the chosen leaders.
ويقال: ما عنده حذاقة أي: شيء من طعام
And it is said: 'He has no skill,' meaning: any food.
وكذا قولهم: ما في رحله حذاقة، وأكل الطعام فما ترك منه حذاقة وحذافة، بالقاف وبالفاء
And likewise their saying: 'There is no food in his saddlebag,' and he ate the food and left no food or sustenance from it, with qaf and fa.
واحتمل رحله فما ترك منه حذاقة
And he carried his saddlebag and left nothing from it.
والحذاقي: الجحش
And al-ḥudhāqī: the young donkey.
وبه فسر الحديث: أنه خرج على صعدة يتبعها حذاقي عليها قوصف لم يبق منها إلا قرقرها والصعدة: الأتان
And with it the hadith is explained: 'He went out on a female donkey, followed by a young donkey, with a broken tail, of which only its rattling remained, and the female donkey is the she-ass.'
ومن المجاز: الحذاقي: الرجل الفصيح اللسان، البين اللهجة
And from metaphor: al-ḥudhāqī: the eloquent man, clear in his dialect.
(إني كفاني من أمر هممت به ... جار كجار الحذاقي الذي اتصفا)
(Indeed, what I intended was sufficient for me... a neighbor like the eloquent neighbor who was described.)
والحذاقي: السكين المحدد عن ابن عباد
And al-ḥudhāqī: the sharp knife, from Ibn 'Abbad.
ومحمد بن يوسف وأخوه إسحاق الحذاقيان من أهل صنعاء اليمن، روى محمد عن عبد الرزاق وغيره، وعنهما عبيد بن محمد الكشوري
And Muhammad ibn Yusuf and his brother Ishaq al-Ḥudhāqiyān from the people of Sana'a, Yemen. Muhammad narrated from 'Abd al-Razzaq and others, and 'Ubayd ibn Muhammad al-Kashūrī narrated from them.
وحذاقي بن حميد بن المستنير ابن حذاقي بالضم، القمي، روى عن آبائه، وعنه الطبراني: محدثون
And Ḥudhāqī ibn Ḥumayd ibn al-Mustanīr ibn Ḥudhāqī (with damma), al-Qummī, narrated from his fathers, and al-Ṭabarānī narrated from him: hadith scholars.
ويقال: تركت الحبل حذاقا، ككتاب وغراب، أي: قطعا، الواحدة حذقة، بالكسر
And it is said: 'I left the rope completely cut (ḥadhāqan, like kitāb and ghurāb),' meaning: in pieces, the singular is ḥidhqah (with kasra).
ويقال حبل أحذاق: أي أخلاق، كأنه حذق، أي: قطع، جعلوا كل جزء منه حذيقا، حكاه اللحياني
And it is said: 'a rope of many pieces (aḥdhāq): meaning worn out, as if it were cut, meaning: cut, they made every part of it a small cut piece (ḥadhīqan), as narrated by al-Laythānī.
وقد انحذق الحبل، أي: انقطع
And the rope has been cut (inḥadhqa), meaning: it has been severed.
ومنكاد منه نياط القلب ينحذق
The very heartstrings are almost severed by it.
فلان في صنعته حاذق باذق، أي: ماهر، وهو إتباع له
So-and-so is in his craft skillful and accomplished, meaning: expert, and it is an emphatic follow-up.
والحاذق: الخبيث، وهو مجاز
And al-ḥādhiq: the cunning one, and it is metaphorical.
وقال أبو حنيفة: الحاذق من الشراب: المدرك البالغ وأنشد
And Abu Hanifa said: Al-ḥādhiq of drinks: is the mature, potent one, and he recited:
يفخن بولا كالشراب الحاذق ذا حروة يطير في المناشق
It foams with urine like a potent drink, with a strong aroma that flies in the nostrils.
وخل حذافي: حاذق، وهو مجاز
And ḥudhāfī vinegar: is potent, and it is metaphorical.
وأحذق الحر: جعله حاذقا
And the heat made it potent: it made it mature.
وهو يتحذق علينا، أي: يظهر الحذق
And he is pretending to be skilled to us, meaning: showing off his skill.
وحذاقة: بطين في قضاعة، نسبوا إلى جشم قال: ومنهم من قاله بالفاء
And Ḥudhāqah: a clan in Quḍā'ah, attributed to Jashm, who said: And some of them pronounced it with fa.
