As for 'al-nashaf', it is a noun for a collection, not a plural, because its verb and form are not ones that are broken into 'af'al', so ponder.

It was named so because of its absorption of dirt, and it was said: because of its absorption of water.

والنشف بالتسكين، والنشف بالتحريك، واحدته نشفة
