And the man is aqnaf, and the woman is qanfā', and it was said: their spreading out and turning towards the head, and it was said: their edges folding over their outer surface.

And Al-Laith said: Al-Qanfā' from the ears of goats: it is the thick one, as if it were the head of a mended sandal.

And from the figurative speech: Al-Kamrah Al-Qanfā': it is the large one by analogy, Ibn Duraid recited:

And Ibn Al-A'rābī said: Al-Qunf, like qanab: what splatters from the flood's mud onto the face of the earth and cracks.

وقال السيرافي: القنف: ما يبس من الغدير فتقلع طينه، وكذلك القلف، وقد ذكر في موضعه.

And Al-Sīrāfī said: Al-Qunf: what dries from a pool and its mud peels off, and likewise Al-Qilf, which has been mentioned in its place.

And Ibn 'Abbad said: Ḥijfah miqnaffah, like mi'ẓamah: meaning spacious.

And it is said: Qannafahu bil-saīf taqnīfan: if he cut him with the sword.
