Al-sijf, with fatha, and its kasra, as transmitted by Al-Jawhari, and likewise Al-sijaf, like Kitab, as transmitted by Ibn Duraid, and it is not a plural of sijf: the curtain, plural: sujuf, and asjaf, and the plural of sijaf: sijf, like kutub. This is the origin, then it was metaphorically used for what is attached to the edges of a garment.
السجف: الستران المقرونان بينهما فرجة، قاله ابن دريد.
Al-sijf: two curtains joined together with a gap between them, said Ibn Duraid.
أو كل باب ستر بسترين مقرونين، مشقوق بينهما، فكل شق منهما سجف، قاله الليث، وسجاف أيضا، قاله ابن دريد.
Or every door is a curtain with two joined curtains, split between them, so each split is a sijf, said Al-Layth, and also sijaf, said Ibn Duraid.

He released the camel that was restraining him... and raised it to the two curtains and the piled goods.

Al-Jawhari said, they are the two leaves of the curtain, which are at the front of the tent.
أسجف الستر: أرسله، وأسبله.
Asjafa al-sitr: to let down the curtain, and to hang it down.
أسجف الليل، مثل: أسدف: أي أظلم، وهو مجاز.
Asjafa al-layl, like asdafa: meaning it darkened, and this is metaphorical.
قال ابن عباد: السجف، محركة، دقة الخصر، وخماصة البطن، يقال: في خصره سجف، وفي بطنه سجف.
Ibn Abbad said: Al-sijf, with haraka, is the slenderness of the waist, and the flatness of the abdomen. It is said: his waist has sijf, and his abdomen has sijf.
من المجاز: السجفة، بالضم: ساعة من الليل، كالسدفة.
From the metaphors: Al-sajfah, with damma: an hour of the night, like Al-sadafah.
وسجف البيت وأسجفه، وسجفه، تسجيفا: أرسل عليه السجف، وستره.

And Al-Asma'i said: a musjaf house: has two curtains at its door.
وفي التهذيب: التسجيف: إرخاء السجفين، وفي المحكم: إرخاء الستر، ومنه قول الفرزدق:
And in Al-Tahdhib: Al-tasjif: is the letting down of the two curtains, and in Al-Muhkam: the letting down of the curtain, and from this is the saying of Al-Farazdaq:

When the black bundles floated in the morning... the curtained bridal chambers slept upon them.
وجهت سجافته أي: هتكت ستره، وأخذت وجهه، ويروى: سدافته والمعنى واحد.
I tore down her curtain, meaning: I breached her cover, and took her face. It is also narrated: sadafatahu, and the meaning is the same.
وأرخى الليل سجوفه: أي أستاره، وهو مجاز.
