It is said: The people came to me with their 'zarafah', like 'za'arah'.

It came in the poetry of Labid with an intensified 'ra', in his saying: (With the wild asses and their 'zarafatuha'... and with wild boars and the ends of ropes).

He said: As for the saying of al-Hajjaj: 'Beware of these gatherings and 'al-zarafat', for I will not find anyone sitting in a 'zarafah' except I strike his neck.' The famous reading in this narration is with lightening (of the 'fa'), forbidding them from gathering, lest it be a cause for sedition.

قوم إذا الشر أبدى ناجذيه لهم ... طاروا إليه زرافات ووحدانا

A people, when evil bares its fangs at them... they fly to it in 'zarafatin' and individually.
