حسف التمر، يحسفه حسفا نقاه من الحسافة.
He scraped the dates, scraping them thoroughly, purifying them from the spoiled residue.
والحسافة، ككناسة: ما تناثر من التمر الفاسد.
And al-hasafah, like kanasah, is what scatters from spoiled dates.
وقيل: الحسافة في التمر خاصة: ما سقط من أقماعه وقشوره وكسره.
And it was said: Al-hasafah, specifically for dates, is what falls from their stems, husks, and broken pieces.
وقال الليث: حسافة التمر: قشوره ورديئه.
And Al-Layth said: The hasafah of dates is their husks and inferior parts.
والحسافة: الغيظ، والعداوة، كالحسيفة، كسفينة فيهما.
And al-hasafah is anger, and enmity, like al-hasifah, in the pattern of 'sakinah', in both (anger and enmity).
يقال، في صدره علي حسيفة وحسافة: أي غيظ وعداوة.
It is said, 'In his chest is against me hasifah and hasafah': meaning anger and enmity.
وقال أبو عبيد: في قلبه عليه كتيفة، وحسيفة، وحسيكة، وسخيمة: بمعنى واحد.
And Abu Ubayd said: In his heart towards him is katifah, hasifah, hasikah, and sakhimah: all meaning one thing.
وبالحسفة بمعنى الضغينة فسر قول الأعشي: (فمات ولم تذهب حسيفة صدره ... يخبر عنه ذاك أهل المقابر)
And with al-hasafah meaning malice, the saying of Al-A'sha was interpreted: (So he died and the malice in his chest did not leave... the people of the graves inform of that).
والحسافة: الماء القليل، نقله شمر، عن ابن الأعرابي.
And al-hasafah is a little water, narrated by Shamir, from Ibn Al-A'rabi.
وأنشد لكثير: (إذا النبل في نحر الكميت كأنها ... شوارع دبر في حسافة مدهن)
And Kathir recited: (When the arrows are in the chest of the bay horse, they are like... dung streaks in the hasafah of a rock basin).
قال شمر: وهي الحشافة، بالشين أيضا، والمدهن: صخر يستنقع فيها الماء.
Shamir said: And it is al-hashafah, with the letter 'shin' also, and al-mudhann is a rock in which water collects.
والحسافة: بقية الطعام، وكذا بقية كل شيء أكل فلم يبق منه إلا قليل.
And al-hasafah is the remainder of food, and likewise the remainder of everything eaten from which only a little is left.
والحسافة: سحالة الفضة، نقله الصاغاني.
And al-hasafah is silver filings, narrated by Al-Sagani.
والحسافة: الشوك، مقتضي سياقه أنه بالفتح، وضبطه الصاغاني في التكملة بالتحريك.
And al-hasafah is thorns, its context implies it is with fatha, and Al-Sagani vocalized it in Al-Takmilah with harakah.
والحسف، بالفتح جري السحاب.
And al-hasf, with fatha, is the movement of clouds.
والحسف، جرسث الحيات، حكاه الأزهري عن بعض الأعراب، وأنشد: (أباتوني بشر مبيت ضيف ... به حسف الأفاعي والبروص)
And al-hasf is the sound of snakes, narrated by Al-Azhari from some Bedouins, and he recited: (They lodged me with the worst lodging of a guest... with the hasf of snakes and vipers).
كالحسيف، كأمير، وكذلك الحفيف.
Like al-hasif, in the pattern of 'ameer', and likewise al-hafiff.
وقال ابن عباد: الحسف: الحصد، كالسحاف بالضم، قال والحسف: سوق الغنم، وقد حسفتها.
And Ibn Abbad said: Al-hasf is harvesting, like al-sahhaf with damma. He said and al-hasf is driving sheep, and you have driven them.
قال: والحسف: الجماع دون الفخذين، وقد حسفها في الجماع.
He said: And al-hasf is intercourse without reaching the thighs, and you have had intercourse with her.
وقال غيره: الحسفة، بهاء السحابة الرقيقة.
And others said: Al-hasafah, with taa marbuta, is a thin cloud.
ويقال: بئر حسيف، كأمير للتي تحفر في الحجارة فلا، ينقطع ماؤها كثرة، كالخسيف، بالخاء.
And it is said: A hasif well, like ameer, is one dug in stone from which water does not cease in abundance, like khasif, with the letter 'kha'.
قال أبو زيد: يقال رجع بحسيفه نفسه، أي: رجع، ولم يقض حاجتها، أي: حاجة نفسه، وفي بعض النسخ: حاجته، وأنشد: (إذا سئلوا المعروف لم يبخلوا به ... ولم يرجعوا طلابه بالحسائف)
Abu Zayd said: It is said, 'He returned with the hasifah of his soul', meaning: he returned, and did not fulfill his need, meaning: the need of his soul. And in some versions: his need. And he recited: (If they are asked for kindness, they do not withhold it... and they do not return its seekers with hasa'if).
وقال ابن عباد: حسف قلبه، كفرح: أجن وحسك.
And Ibn Abbad said: Hasifa his heart, like 'faraha', means he became hateful and resentful.
وقال الفراء: حسف فلان، كعني: رذل وأسقط.
And Al-Farra' said: Hasafa so-and-so, like 'ani', means he became base and contemptible.
وقال ابن عباد: أحسف التمر: إذا خلطه بحسافته.
And Ibn Abbad said: Ahsaf the dates, if he mixed them with their hasafah.
قال: وتحسيف الشارب: حلقه، يقال: حسف شاربه تحسيفا.
He said: And tahsif of the mustache is shaving it. It is said: He shaved his mustache with tahsif.
وتحسفت الأوبار: إذا تمعطت وتطايرت، وكذلك توسفت، كذا في اللسان والمحيط.
And the furs tahassafat: if they became loose and flew off, and likewise tawassafat, as in Al-Lisan and Al-Muheet.
والمتحسف من الناس: من لا يدع شيئا إلا أكله، كذا في المحيط.
And al-mutahassif among people is one who leaves nothing without eating it, as in Al-Muheet.
وانحسف الشيء في يدي: تفتت، نقله الجوهري.
And the thing inhassafa in my hand: it crumbled, narrated by Al-Jawahiri.
حساف المائدة، بالضم ما ينتثر فيؤكل، فيرجي فيه الثواب، وحساف الصليان ونحوه: يبيسه، والجمع أحساف.
Husaf of the dining table, with damma, is what falls and is eaten, hoping for reward, and husaf of saliyan and the like: its dryness, and the plural is ahsaf.
وقال ابن الأعرابي الحسوف: استقصاء الشيء وتنقيته.
And Ibn Al-A'rabi said Al-hasoof: is investigating a thing and purifying it.
وتحسف الجلد: تقشر، عن ابن الأعرابي.
And the skin tahassafa: it peeled off, from Ibn Al-A'rabi.
وهو من حسافتهم: أي من خشارتهم: وحسافة الناس: رذالهم.
And he is from their hasafah: meaning from their worthless ones: and the hasafah of people is their base ones.
وحسف القرحة: قشرها.
And he scraped the sore: he peeled its surface.
