As for Al-Mani' in His names, glory be to Him, it is: He who prevents from deserving prevention.
وقيل: يمنع أهل دينه، أي: يحوطهم وينصرهم
And it was said: He protects the people of His religion, meaning: He surrounds them and supports them.
جمع الأول منعة، محركة، ككافر وكفرة
The plural of the first is 'mun'ah', with vowels, like 'kafir' and 'kafara'.
ويقال: هو في عز ومنعة، محركة
And it is said: He is in honor and strength, with vowels.
وعلى التحريك فيحتمل أن يكون جمع مانع، كما حكاه الجوهري
And with the vowelization, it is possible that it is the plural of 'mani'', as narrated by Al-Jawahiri.
أي: هو في عزو معه من يمنعه من عشيرته
Meaning: He is in honor and has those with him who protect him from his kin.
فمن بيانية، أي: معه ناس متصفون بأنهم يمنعونه من الضيم والتعدي عليه
So 'min' is explanatory, meaning: he has people characterized by their protecting him from oppression and aggression against him.
سيعوذ بهذا الدين قوم ليس لهم منعة
People will seek refuge in this religion who have no strength.
وأما على تقدير السكون، فالمراد به أي: قوة تمنع من يريده بسوء
And as for the case with Sukun, it means: strength that prevents whoever intends him harm.
ويحتمل على تقدير التحريك أن يكون مصدرا، كالأنفة والعظمة والعبدة
And it is possible with the vowelization that it is a masdar, like 'anafah', 'azhamah', and 'abatah'.

And Al-Man'i: the eater of cancers.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to Zayd Al-Khayl when he came to greet him: 'I am better for you than Minnaa'.
ويقال: المناعان، وهما جبلان
And it is said: Al-Man'aan, and they are two mountains.
أرى الدهر لا يبقى على حدثانه ... أبود بأطراف المناعة جلعد
I see that time does not remain with its events... I perish at the edges of Al-Mana'ah, a strong man.
والمناعة: د، لهذيل، أو جبل لهم
And Al-Mana'ah: a place, belonging to Hudhayl, or a mountain of theirs.
والممتنع: الأسد القوي في جسمه، العزيز في نفسه
And Al-Mumtani': the lion, strong in its body, proud in its self.
ومانعه الشيء ممانعة: رادعه على الكف

وناقة مانع: منعت لبنها، على النسب
And a 'maani'' she-camel: she withheld her milk, by attribution.
كأني أصاديها على غير مانع ... مقلصة قد أهجرتها فحولها
As if I am chasing her without hindrance... a swift one whose males have left her.
وقوس منعة: ممتنعة متأبية شاقة، وهو مجاز
And a 'mun'ah' bow: resistant, stubborn, difficult to draw, and this is metaphorical.
ارم سلاما وأبا الغراف وعاصما عن منعة وقذاف
Shoot Salamah, Abu Al-Gharaaf, and 'Aasim, away from the difficult and the swift.
ورجل منيع: قوي البدن شديده
And a 'mani'' man: strong and robust in body.
لا منع عن ذاك، قال: والتأويل: حقا أنك أنت فعلت ذلك
'La mana'a 'an dhaak', he said: and the interpretation is: truly, you are the one who did that.
وهو يمنع الجار، أي: يحوطه من أن يضام وينصره
And he protects the neighbor, meaning: he surrounds him from being oppressed and supports him.
وله في قومه حصن منيع وممنع، وهو مجاز
And he has among his people an impenetrable and inaccessible fortress, and this is metaphorical.
والموانع: جمع مانع
And Al-Mawaani': the plural of 'maani''.
وتمانعا: امتنعا
And they mutually refused: they abstained.
وعن أنفسهما: تحاميا

And Al-Mana'ah, like 'thamaamah', Ibn Jinni said: it is possible for two things.
أحدهما: أن يكون فعالة من المنع
The first: that it is 'f'aalah' from 'al-man''.
والآخر: أن يكون مفعلة من قولهم: جائع نائع، وأصلها منوعة، فجرى مجرى مقامة، وأصلها مقومة
And the second: that it is 'muf'alah' from their saying: 'jaa'i' naa'i'', and its origin is 'munawwah', so it followed the pattern of 'maqamah', whose origin is 'muqawwamah'.
