It is only called 'mali'' because of the camels' movement in it, which is their going.
أو المليع كهيئة السكة، ذاهب في الأرض، ضيق، قعره أقل من قامة، ثم لا يلبث أن ينقطع ثم يضمحل
Or the mali' is like a track, going into the ground, narrow, its depth less than a cubit, then it soon ends and disappears.
يقود المليع الغلوتين، أو أقل
The mali' leads for two leagues, or less.
ولا محالة من قبر بمحنية ... أو ف مليع كظهر الترس وضاح
And inevitably from a grave in a hollow... or a mali' like the clear back of a shield.

And by this is explained the saying of Amr ibn Ma'di Karib: 'So I heard, and a road led us on.'
والميلع، كحيدر: الطويل الخفيف
And the mil'a, like Haydar, is tall and light.
وتهفو بهاد لها ميلع ... كما أقحم القادس الأردمونا
And its udder sways with a swift movement... as the strong camel pushed forward.
أي المتحرك، كما في العباب، ونص الفراء: المضطرب هكذا وهكذا
Meaning moving, as in Al-Abab, and the text of Al-Farra: 'Stirring here and there.'
وميلع بلا لام: اسم ناقة
And mil'a without 'lam' is the name of a she-camel.
والملاع، كسحاب: المفازة لا نبات بها، كالميلع
And al-mala', like Sahab, is the desert wasteland without vegetation, like al-mil'a.
أرض بعينها أضيفت إليها عقاب في قولهم: أودت بهم وفي الصحاح: به، وفي العباب: ويروى: ذهبت بهم عقاب ملاع
A specific land to which eagles are attributed, in their saying: 'It destroyed them,' and in Al-Sihah: 'with it,' and in Al-Abab: 'It is narrated: Eagles of Mala' carried them away.'
كأن دثارا حلقت بلبونه ... عقاب ملاع لا عقاب القواعل
As if carcasses were circling its chest... swift eagles, not eagles of short mountains.
معناه: ان العقاب كلما علت في الجبل كان أسرع لانقضاضها يقول: فهذه عقاب ملاع، أي: تهوي من علو، وليست بعقاب القواعل، وهي الجبال القصار
Its meaning: The higher the eagle ascends the mountain, the faster it swoops. He says: These are swift eagles, meaning they swoop from a height, unlike the eagles of short mountains.
أو ملاع من نعت العقاب أضيفت إلى نعتها
Or mala' is an adjective of the eagle, attributed to its description.
أو عقاب ملاع: هي العقيب التي تصيد العصافير والجرذان، ولا تأخذ منها، فارسيته: موش خوار
Or 'uqab mala'' is the hawk that hunts sparrows and mice but doesn't catch them; its Persian name is 'mush khawar'.
لأنت أخف يدا من عقيب ملاع يا فتى، بالنصب
You are lighter-handed than a swift hawk, young man (accusative).
يقال: هم عليه ملع واحد: إذا تجمعوا عليه بالعداوة
It is said: 'They are upon him with one mala'' when they gather against him with enmity.
ويقال: لشد ما أملعت الناقة، وامتلعت، أي: مرت مسرعة
And it is said: 'How swiftly the she-camel moved, and moved swiftly, meaning: she passed quickly.'
وقد امتلع الجمل فسبق، أوهما أي الإملاع والامتلاع: سرعة عنقها
And the camel moved swiftly and won; or both, imla' and imtila', mean the speed of its gallop.
ويقال: ملع الشاة، كمنع: سلخا من قبل عنقها، كامتلعها
And it is said: 'mala' the sheep,' like 'mana',' meaning: to skin it from its neck, like imtila'aha.
وامتلعه: اختلسه كامتلعه على القلب
And imtala'ahu: he snatched it, like imtala'ahu with inversion.

Al-mal': Going in the land.

الملع: السرعة والخفة

And the female is mulawwa' and mil'a, and milaa' is rare, for those who make it 'fi'aal', and that is because the masdar is specific to this pattern.
وعقاب ملاع وملاع وملوع، كسحاب وكتاب وصبور: خفيفة الضرب والاختطاف
And 'uqab mala', mala', and mulawwa', like Sahab, Kitab, and Sabur: light in striking and snatching.
والميلع، كحيدر: الطريق الذي له سندان مد البصر
And al-mil'a, like Haydar: the road that extends as far as the eye can see.
والشد يدني لاحقاً وهبلعا وصاحب الحرج ويدني ميلعا
And the pursuit brings closer the follower and the swift one, and the one in distress, and brings Mil'a closer.
يقال: ملع الفصيل أمه، وملق أمه: إذا رضعها
It is said: 'The young camel suckled its mother,' and 'maliqa its mother,' if it suckled it.
