واللهع، محركة: التشدق في الكلام مثل التبلتع، وقيل: هو قلب الهلع، قيل: وبه سمي الرجل.
And 'al-lah'u', vocalized: excessive talk in speech like 'al-taballu'a', and it is said: it is a transposition of 'al-hal'a', and it is said: by this the man was named.
وقال الأصمعي: تلهيع في كلامه: إذا أفرط وتبلتع ودخل معبد بن طوق العنبري على أمير، فأحسن، فلما جلس تلهيع في كلامه، فقال له: يا معبد ما أظرفك قائما، وأموقك جالسا: قال إني إذا قمت جددت، وإذا جلست هزلت.
And al-Aṣma'ī said: 'Talhay'a' in his speech: if he exaggerates and rambles. And Ma'bad ibn Ṭawq al-'Anbarī entered upon an amīr, and he was excellent. When he sat down, he 'talhay'a' in his speech. So he said to him: 'O Ma'bad, how pleasant you are standing, and how foolish you are sitting!' He said: 'Indeed, when I stand, I am renewed, and when I sit, I become frivolous.'
ومما يستدرك عليه: رجل لهع، محركة، ولهيع كأمير: مسترسل إلى كل أحد، وقد لهع كفرح، كما في العين.
