For a man's wealth that he mends, so he becomes rich... Poverty is more honorable than subservience.

حتى أكنعا

Until he became submissive.

رمى الله في تلك الأكف الكوانع

May Allah cast upon those hands that beg.

وكنع النجم كنوعا: مال للغروب

And the star contracted, with contraction: it inclined towards setting.

وكنع عن الأمر كنوعا: إذا أحجم عنه، وهرب وجبن

And he contracted from the matter, with contraction: if he shied away from it, fled, and was cowardly.

فلما بلغوا المدينة كنعوا عنها

And when they reached the city, they shied away from it.

ما أكنعه وما أجبنه

How he shied away! And how cowardly he was!

وكنع أصابعه كنوعا: ضربها فأيبسها

And he contracted his fingers, with contraction: he struck them and made them stiff.

فأصبحت كفه اليمنى بها كنع

And Al-Layth recited: Sitting by their wells, they water them... Thus he recited it, and it is narrated: 'the adhering hands', and it was mentioned recently.

والكنيع: المكسور اليد

And the 'kanee'' (broken-handed): the one with a broken hand.

والكنيع أيضا: العادل عن طريق إلى غيره

And the 'kanee'' also: one who deviates from a path to another.

يقال: كنعوا عنا، أي: عدلوا

It is said: 'Kana'oo 'anna', meaning: they deviated.

والكنيع من الجوع: الشديد

And the 'kanee'' from hunger: the severe (hungry).

وهم أولاد كنعان بن سام بن نوح عليه الصلاة والسلام

تأوبني فبت لها كنيعا ... هموم - ما تفارقني - حوانى

Worries came to me, so I spent the night contracted by them... worries that do not leave me, surrounding me.

والكانع: الذي تدانى وتصاغر وتقارب بعضه من بعض

And the 'kanie'': one who draws near, becomes humble, and his parts draw close to each other.

وما بالدار كنيع، أي: أحد
