يقال اتبع فلان أدبارهم يكسعهم بالسيف، مثل يكسؤهم، أي يطردهم
It is said, 'So-and-so pursued their rears, striking them with the sword, like driving them away, meaning expelling them.'
مر فلان يكسعهم ويكسؤهم
So-and-so passed by, driving them away and expelling them.
كسعت الناقة والظبية كسعا: أدخلتا أذنابهما بين أرجلهما
The she-camel and the gazelle tucked their tails between their legs.
كسعت الخيل بأذنابها، واكتسعت: أدخلتها بين أرجلها
The horses tucked their tails, and they tucked them between their legs.
كسع الناقة بغبرها: ترك بقية من لبنها في خلفها، يريد بذلك تغزيرها وهو أشد لها
To stimulate the she-camel with its residue: to leave a remainder of its milk in its rear, intending to increase its milk production, which is stronger for it.
إذا ضرب خلفها بالماء البارد ليتراد اللبن في ظهرها، وذلك إذا خاف عليها الجدب في العام القابل
If its rear is struck with cold water so that the milk flows into its udder, and that is if drought is feared for it in the following year.
لا تكسع الشول بأغبارها إنك لا تدري من الناتج
Do not stimulate the young camels with their residues, for you do not know who will be the offspring.
الكسعة، بالضم النكتة البيضاء، التي تكون في جبهة كل شيء، الدابة وغيرها
Al-kas'ah, with damma, is the white spot that is on the forehead of everything, be it an animal or otherwise.
الريش الأبيض المجتمع تحت ذنب العقاب، ونحوها من الطير
The white feathers gathered under the tail of an eagle, and similar birds.
ليس في الجبهة، ولا في النخة ولا في الكسعة صدقة
There is no charity due on a white forehead mark, nor on a blaze, nor on a white tail spot.
الكسعة: الحمير، وعليه اقتصر الجوهري قيل: لأنها تكسع في أدبارها، وعليها أحمالها
Al-kas'ah: donkeys. Al-Jawhari limited it to this, it is said: because they are driven from behind, and they carry their loads.
الكسعة تقع أيضا على الإبل العوامل، والبقر العوامل، والرقيق لأنها تكسع بالعصا إذا سيقت
Al-kas'ah also applies to working camels, working oxen, and slaves, because they are driven with a stick when herded.
سمي كسعة لأنك تكسعه إلى حاجتك
It is called kas'ah because you drive it to your need.
أتوني بكسع جبيزات معششات، أي اليابسات المكرجات
They brought me dried, crushed pieces of bread, meaning dry and crumbled.
فمر وهو يطردهم، وكمن في قترة على موارد حمر الوحش، فرمى عيرا منها، فأمخطه السهم، أي أنفذه
So he passed by driving them away, and hid in a blind on the watering grounds of wild asses. He shot one of them, and the arrow pierced it, meaning it went through.
فأبشروا بالخصب يا صبيان إن لم يعقني الشؤم والحرمان
So rejoice in abundance, O boys, if misfortune and deprivation do not hinder me.
فأورى السهم في الصوانة نارا فظن أنه قد أخطأ
And the arrow struck flint, igniting fire, so he thought he had missed.
أعوذ بالمهيمن الرحمن من نكد الجد مع الحرمان
I seek refuge in the Guardian, the Most Merciful, from the hardship of fate with deprivation.
أعوذ بالرحمن من شر القدر لا بارك الرحمن في أم القتر
I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from the evil of destiny. May the Most Merciful not bless the mother of the blind.
أخلف ظني ورجا الصبيان

إني لشؤمي وشقائي ونكد قد شف مني ما أرى حر الكبد
Indeed, due to my ill fortune, my misery, and hardship, I feel the burning of my liver.
أبعد خمس قد حفظت عدها أحمل قوسي وأريد ردها
After five, which I have counted, I carry my bow and wish to return it.
والله لا تسلم عندي بعدها ولا أرجي ما حييت رفدها
By God, it will not remain with me after that, nor will I hope for its support as long as I live.
فخرج من قترته فعمد إلى قوسه فكسرها على صخرة، ثم بات إلى جانبها
So he came out of his blind, went to his bow, broke it on a rock, and then slept beside it.
فإذا الحمر مطرحة حوله مصرعة، وإذا أسهمه بالدم مضرجة
And the wild asses were lying around him, slain, and his arrows were stained with blood.
فندم على كسر القوس فقطع إبهامه
He regretted breaking the bow and cut off his thumb.
تبين لي سفاه الرأي مني لعمر أبيك حين كسرت قوسي
The foolishness of my opinion became clear to me, by your father's life, when I broke my bow.
ندمت ندامة الكسعي لما غدت مني مطلقة نوار
I regretted with the regret of Al-Kas'i when a beautiful, free woman was taken from me.
ندمت ندامة الكسعي لما رأت عيناه ما فعلت يداه
He regretted with the regret of Al-Kas'i when his eyes saw what his hands had done.
ندمت ندامة الكسعي لما شريت رضى بني سهم برغم
He regretted with the regret of Al-Kas'i when he bought the satisfaction of Banu Sahm against his will.
الكسع، محركة: من شيات الخيل، من وضح القوائم: أن يكون البياض في طرف الثنة من رجلها
Al-kas', harakah: is among the markings of horses, from the white markings of the legs: that the whiteness be at the tip of the pastern of its leg.
بياض في أطراف الثنة

حمّام أكسع: تحت ذنبه ريش بيض
An aksca pigeon: has white feathers under its tail.
رجل مكسع، كمعظم، وهو من نعت العزب إذا لم يتزوج، وتفسيره: ردت بقيته في ظهره
A muksa' man, like mu'azzam, which is a description of a bachelor when he has not married, and its meaning is: his remaining semen is retained in his back.
والله لا يخرجها من قعره إلا فتى مكسع بغبره
By God, nothing will bring it out of its depth except a celibate youth with his residue.
اكتسع الفحل: إذا خطر فضرب فخذيه بذنبه فإن شال به، ثم طواه، فقد عقربه
The stallion struck its thighs with its tail: if it moved and struck its thighs with its tail, then if it lifted it and folded it, it has stung itself.
اكتسع الكلب بذنبه إذا استثفر به

كسعه بما ساءه: تكلم فرماه على إثر قوله بكلمة يسؤءه بها

كسعه: إذا همزه من ورائه بكلام قبيح، وهو مجاز
