And Al-Qāʿ is a land that is easy, low-lying, wide, level, free, with no roughness, elevation, or depression in it.
وَهُوَ مَصَبُّ المِيَاهِ
And it is a place where water collects.
وَقِيلَ: هُوَ مَا اسْتَوَى مِنَ الأَرْضِ وَصَلُبَ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ نَبَاتٌ
And it is said: it is what is level and firm on the ground, and has no vegetation.
فَيَذَرُهَا قَاعًا صَفْصَفًا
Then He leaves it as a level, smooth plain.
كَسَرَابٍ بِقِيعَةٍ
Like a mirage in a plain.
إِنَّمَا هِيَ قِيَعَانٌ أَمْسَكَتِ المَاءَ
They are only plains that have held water.
وَإِذَا تَعَاوَرَتِ الحَصَى أَخْفَافُهَا ... دَوَّى نَوَادِيهِ بِظَهْرِ القَاعِ
And when its hooves strike the pebbles... its flanks echo on the surface of the plain.
وَبَيْنَ اللَّابَتَيْنِ إِذَا اطْمَأَنَّتْ ... لَعِبْنَ هَمَالِجًا رَصْفًا وَقِيعًا
And between the two lava fields, when it settled... they played, trotting smoothly on the ground.
وَدَّعْنَ أَقْوَاعَ الشَّمَالِيلِ بَعْدَمَا ... ذَوَى بَقْلُهَا، أَحْرَارُهَا وَذُكُورُهَا
They left the plains of the north after... their vegetation withered, the free and the male plants.
يُقَالُ: هَذِهِ قَاعٌ، وَثَلَاثٌ أَقْوَعٌ
It is said: this is a plain, and three are aqwaʿ.

And Al-Quwāʿ, like ghurāb: the male rabbit.
وَالقُوَاعُ، كَشَدَّادٍ: الذِّئْبُ الصَّيَّاحُ
And Al-Quwāʿ, like shaddād: the howling wolf.
وَتَقَوُّعُ الإِنْسَانِ تَقَوُّعًا: إِذَا مَالَ فِي مِشْيَتِهِ
And a person's taqawwuʿ, taqawwuʿan: if he deviates in his walk.
اقْتَاعَ الفَحْلُ النَّاقَةَ، وَتَقَوَّعَهَا: إِذَا ضَرَبَهَا
The stallion mounted the she-camel, and taqawwaʿahā: if he struck her.
