And most scholars hold that he is Quda'ah ibn Ma'add ibn Adnan, and that Malik ibn Murrah was his mother's husband, so he was attributed to his mother's husband, a custom well-known among the Arabs.

Quda'ah continued to be known as Adnanite in the pre-Islamic and Islamic periods.
فمال كلب يومئذ إلى اليمن، وانتمت إلى حمير، استظهارا منهم إلى قيس
So the tribe of Kalb at that time leaned towards Yemen, and affiliated themselves with Himyar, seeking support from Qays.
ولهذا قال محمد بن سلام البصري النسابة لما سئل: أنزار أكثر أم اليمن فقال: إن تمعددت قضاعة فنزار أكثر، وإن تيمنت فاليمن.
And for this reason, Muhammad ibn Salam Al-Basri, the genealogist, when asked: Are the Nizari or the Yemenites more numerous? He said: If Quda'ah becomes Adnanite, then the Nizari are more numerous, and if they become Yemenite, then the Yemenites are.
أو لقب به لانقضاعه عن قومه مع أمه، وهو انقطاعه عنهم.
Or he was given the title due to his separation from his people with his mother, which is his breaking away from them.
ومن قضعه، كمنع: قهره، قاله الخليل.
And from Qada'ahu (form I), like Man'a: to overpower him, said Al-Khalil.
