Al-sha'la'u, like ha-mla'u, and al-sha'na'u, with the addition of the noon between the 'ayn and the lam.
And the author wrote this letter in red as if he were correcting Al-Jauhari, but it is not so.
Rather, Al-Jauhari mentioned it at the end of the root 'sh-'-''-' and said: It is with the addition of the lam: the tall, as narrated by Al-Farra'.
And he did not mention al-sha'na'u; rather, Ibn 'Abbad mentioned it.
And some of them restricted it to men.
And a tree is also sha'la'ah: with dispersed branches, not clustered.
And this supports the statement of Al-Jauhari: that the origin of its composition is sh-'-' meaning dispersion.
And Al-Azhari said: I do not know if the first 'ayn was added, or the last is added.
So if the last one is added, the root is sh-'-l.
And if the first one is the added one, then its root is sh-l-'-'.
