وفي المثل: أهون السقي التشريع
And in the proverb: The easiest watering is At-Tashri'.
فرفعوا إلى شريح، فسأل أولياء المقتول، فلما عجزوا عن إقامتها ألزم القوم الأيمان
So they brought it before Shurayh, and he asked the guardians of the murdered man. When they were unable to provide proof, he made the people take oaths.
شرع الوارد يشرع شرعا، وشروعا: تناول الماء بفيه.
The one arriving at the water drinks by opening his mouth, 'yashra'u' (he drinks) with his mouth, a 'shar'an' and 'shuru'an': taking water with his mouth.
وأشرع يده إلى المطهرة: أدخلها فيها.
And he inserted his hand into the purification vessel: he put it into it.
وفي حديث الوضوء: حتى أشرع في العضد أي أدخل الماء إليه.
And in the hadith of ablution: until he inserted [water] into the forearm, meaning he put water onto it.
فلما شرعت قصعت غليلا ... فأعجلها وقد شربت غمارا
When it reached the watering place and quenched its thirst... it hurried away, though it had drunk deeply.
وشرع فلان في كذا وكذا، إذا أخذ فيه
And so-and-so embarked on such-and-such, if he took it up.
ويقال: فلان يشترع شرعته، كما يقال: يفتطر فطرته، ويمتل ملته، كل ذلك من شرعة الدين، وفطرته، وملته.
And it is said: So-and-so follows his religion, just as it is said: he follows his fitra, and he follows his milla, all of that from the shari'a of the religion, his fitra, and his milla.
والشارع: الطريق الأعظم الذي يشرع فيه الناس عامة
And the Shari': the great road into which people generally enter.
وأنشد لعبد الله بن أبي أوفى يهجو امرأة: (وليست بتاركة محرما ... ولو حف بالأسل الشرع)
And he recited from Abdullah bin Abi Awfa, satirizing a woman: (She does not leave forbidden things... even if surrounded by straight spears).
ورمح شراعي، بالضم، أي طويل، شبه بشراع الإبل
And a shira'i spear, with damma, meaning long, likened to a camel's sail.
وأشرع الشيء: رفعه جدا.
And he raised the thing very high.
والشرع: نهج الطريق الواضح، يقال: شرعت له طريقا.
And Ash-Shar': the clear path of the road, it is said: I made a path for him.
والشرع: مصدر، ثم جعل اسما للطريق النهج، ثم استعير ذلك للطريقة الإلهية من الدين
And Ash-Shar': a masdar, then made a name for the clear path, then this was metaphorically used for the divine way of religion.
والشرائع نعم الشرائع، من وردها روي، وإلا دوي.
And the watering places are indeed good watering places; whoever drinks from them is quenched, otherwise they suffer thirst.
وجمع الشريعة: شرائع.
And the plural of Shari'a is Shara'i'.
غدا قلقا تخل الجزء منه ... فيممها شريعة أو سرارا
