قال الليث: السميدع: الشجاع — Al-Layth said: Al-Sumaydi' is the brave one.

قال النضر: والذئب يقال له: السميدع، لسرعته — Al-Nadr said: And the wolf is called Al-Sumaydi' because of its speed.

والرجل الخفيف في حوائجه سميدع، من ذلك. — And a man who is quick in his affairs is a sumaydi', from this.

وزنه فميعل، والميم زائدة، واشتقاقه من السدع، وهو الذبح والبسط، يقال: سدعه: إذا ذبحه وبسطه. — Its weight is 'fay'lal', and the mim is extra, and its derivation is from 'saada'a', which is slaughtering and spreading out, it is said: 'saada'ahu' if he slaughtered him and spread him out.
