قال ابن دريد: السعسعة: اضطراب الجسم كبرا، يقال: سعسع الشيخ وغيره، إذا اضطرب من الكبر والهرم.

Ibn Durayd said: Al-sa'sa'ah: the trembling of the body due to old age; it is said: 'sa'sa'a al-shaykh wa ghayruhu', if he trembles from old age and decrepitude.

قال ابن عباد: السعسعة: الهرم، وأنشد الليث: (لم تسمعي يوما لها من وعوعه ... إلا بقول: حاء، أو بالسعسعه)

Ibn 'Abbad said: Al-sa'sa'ah: old age. And Al-Layth recited: (You never heard from it any moaning... except by saying: 'Haa', or with al-sa'sa'ah).

قال ابن الأعرابي، والفراء: السعسعة: الفناء كالتسعسع

Ibn al-A'rabi and Al-Farra' said: Al-sa'sa'ah: perishing, like al-tasas'a'.

قال الجوهري: تسعسع الرجل، أي: كبر حتى هرم وولى، وزاد غيره: واضطرب وأسن، ولا يكون التسعسع إلا باضطراب مع كبر

Al-Jawhari said: 'tasas'a'a al-rajul', meaning: he grew old until he became decrepit and passed away. Others added: and trembled and aged, and 'al-tasas'a'' only occurs with trembling along with old age.

وقد تسعسع عمره، قال عمرو بن شأس: (وما زال يزجي حب ليلى أمامه ... وليدين حتى عمرنا قد تسعسعا)

And his life has reached its end. 'Amr ibn Shas' said: (And he kept driving the love of Layla before him... for two young men until our age has reached its end).

ويقال: تسعسع الشيخ، إذا قارب الخطو، واضطرب من الهرم

And it is said: 'tasas'a'a al-shaykh', if he shortens his steps and trembles from old age.

قالت ولم تأل به أن يسمعا ... يا هند ما أسرع ما تسعسعا ... من بعد ما كان فتى سرعرعا

She said, and did not fail to make him hear... O Hind, how quickly he has grown old... after he was a robust young man.

السعسعة: تروية الشعر بالدهن كالسغسغة، بالغين المعجمة، عن ابن الأعرابي.
