I stayed awake for him among the people while the dawn was spreading... like Mars, whose brilliance was sent forth.
سطع بيديه سطعا، بالفتح: صفق بهما
He slapped with his hands, with fath: he clapped them.

هي في العنق بالطول، فإذا كان بالعرض فهو العلاط
It is lengthwise on the neck, and if it is widthwise, it is 'al-'ilat'.
وسطعه تسطيعا: وسمه به، فهو مسطع، وإبل مسطعة
And he branded him with it, he is branded, and camels are branded.
مسطعة الأعناق بلق القوادم

والأسطع: الطويل العنق
And al-ast'a': the long-necked.
يقال: جمل أسطع، وناقة سطعاء، وقد سطع، كفرح

The scent of musk struck me, as in 'man'a', when it flew to your nose.
وكذا أعجبني سطوع رائحته، وسطعت الرائحة سطوعا: فاحت وعلت
And likewise, I liked the spreading of its scent, and the scent spread: it became fragrant and rose.

He remained stooped, appearing and you not recognizing him... at times, and he would rise sometimes and stand erect.
وعنق أسطع: طويل منتصب
And a long-necked: tall and erect.
وسطع السهم، إذا رمي به فشخص يلمع
And the arrow flashed, when it was shot and it gleamed.
شمره، أي أرسله
He sent it forth, meaning he launched it.
ينشنه نوشا بأمثال السطع
He pricked him with pricks like tent poles.
