And the road was cut across (ta'a al-ṭarīq yati'uhu tay'an): it was cut.

And he hastened towards it (ta'a ilayhi): he was quick, and from it is the derivation of al-tay'an as will come, and from it he went towards it (ta'a ilayhi): he went.
وتاج السمن يتيعه تيعا وتوعا: رفعه بقطعة خبز كتيعه.
And the ghee was lifted (ta'a al-samn yati'uhu tay'an wa taw'an): he lifted it with a piece of bread like his tay'a.
يقال: تاع به يتيع تيعا، وتيع به، إذا أخذه بيده، وأنشد: فأعطيتها عودا وتعت بتمرة وخير المراغيقد علمناقصارها
It is said: He took it with his hand (ta'a bihi yati'u tay'an), and he took it with his hand (tay'a bihi), if he took it with his hand, and he recited: So I gave her a stick and she took a date with it, and the best of the things to lick with, we know its shortness.
وتعت بتمرة أي أخذتها آكل بها.
And she took a date with it (wa ta'at bi-tamra) meaning she took it to eat with it.
وتعت بتمرة قال: ومثل ذلك تيعت بها.
And she took a date with it (wa ta'at bi-tamra) he said: And like that, she took it with it (tay'at biha).
وأعطاني فلان درهما، فتعت به، أي أخذته.

والتيعة، بالكسر: الأربعون من الغنم، نقله أبو عبيد في شرح حديث وائل بن حجر: على التيعة شاة، والتيمة لصاحبها ومنهم من خصه بغنم الصدقة، وحكى شمر عن ابن الأعرابي قال: التيعة: لا أدري ما هي، وبلغنا عن الفراء أنه قال: التيعة من الشاء: القطعة التي تجب فيها الصدقة ترعى حول البيوت أو التيعة: أدنى ما يجب من الصدقة كالأربعين فيها شاة، وكخمس من الإبل فيها شاة، قاله أبو سعيد الضرير، قال: وإنما! تيع التيعة الحق الذي وجب للمصدق فيها، لأنه لو رام أخذ شيء منها قبل أن يبلغ عددها ما يجب فيه التيعة لمنعه صاحب المال، فلما وجب فيه الحق تاع إليه المصدق، أي عجل. وتاج رب المال إلى إعطائه فجاد به.
And al-tay'a, with kasra: forty of the sheep, Abu 'Ubayd transmitted it in the explanation of the hadith of Wa'il ibn Hujr: On the tay'a is a sheep, and the tay'a belongs to its owner, and some of them specified it for the sheep of charity, and Shammar narrated from Ibn al-A'rabi who said: Al-tay'a: I do not know what it is, and we reached from Al-Farra' that he said: Al-tay'a from the sheep: the portion for which charity is due, grazing around the houses, or al-tay'a: the minimum for which charity is due, like forty for which there is a sheep, and five camels for which there is a sheep, Abu Sa'id al-Ḍarīr said, he said: And only! the tay'a is the right that became due to the giver of charity in it, because if he intended to take something from it before its number reached what the tay'a is due for, the owner of the wealth would prevent him, so when the right became due, the giver of charity hastened towards it (ta'a ilayhi), meaning he was quick. And the owner of the wealth hastened towards giving it and was generous with it.
وقال أبو عبيد: التيعة: اسم لأدنى ما يجب فيه الصدقة، أي الزكاة من الحيوان، وكأنها الجملة التي للسعاة إليها ذهاب، ونص أبي عبيد: عليها سبيل، من تاع يتيع، إذا ذهب إليه، كالخمس من الإبل، والأربعين من الغنم.
And Abu 'Ubayd said: Al-tay'a: is the name for the minimum for which charity, i.e., Zakat from livestock, is due, and it is as if it is the group to which the collectors go, and Abu 'Ubayd's text: there is a way to it, from ta'a yati'u, if he goes to it, like five camels, and forty sheep.
وقال ابن الأعرابي: التاعة: الكتلة من اللباء الثخينة، نقله الصاغاني.
And Ibn al-A'rabi said: Al-ta'a: is the thick clot of colostrum, Al-Ṣaghānī transmitted it.
رجل تيع ككيس، وتيعان محركة مشددة، وكذلك تيح وتيحان، وتيق وتيقان، أي متسرع إلى الشر أو إلى الشيء من قولهم: تاع إلى الشيء، أي) عجل إليه.
A man is hasty (tayyi' ka-kīss), and tay'ān, with haraka and shadda, and also tayyih and tayyihān, and tayyīq and tayyīqān, meaning rushing towards evil or towards a thing, from their saying: he rushed towards the thing (ta'a ilā al-shay'), meaning) he hastened towards it.
والأتيع: المتتايع، أي المتسارع في الحمق، أو الذاهب فيه.
And al-aty'a: is al-mutatāyi', meaning one who rushes into foolishness, or goes into it.
الأتيع من الأماكن: ما يجري السراب على وجهه.
Al-aty'a of places: is what the mirage flows across its surface.
وأتاع الرجل إتاعة فهو متيع: قاء، والقيء متاع.
And the man vomited (atā'a rajul itā'atan fa-huwa mutī'): he vomited, and the vomit is matā'.
وظلت تعبط الأيدي كلوما تمج عروقها علقا متاعا
And hands kept wounding the wounds, its veins spewing forth clotted blood, matā'.
وأتاع القيء: أعاده، وكذلك أتاع دمه فتاع تيوعا.
And he brought back the vomit (atā'a al-qay'): he brought it back, and likewise he brought back his blood, so it vomited (fa-tā'a tuyū'an).
والتتايع: ركوب الأمر على خلاف الناس، عن ابن شميل.
And al-tatāyu': is riding the matter contrary to people, from Ibn Shumayl.
وقال أبو عبيد: التتايع: التهافت في الشيء، والمتايعة عليه، يقال للقوم: قد تتايعوا في الشيء، إذا تهافتوا فيه، وسارعوا إليه، وبه فسر الحديث: ما يحملكم على أن تتايعوا في الكذب كما يتتايع الفراش في النار.
And Abu 'Ubayd said: Al-tatāyu': is falling into a matter, and al-mutāya'a upon it, it is said to a people: they have fallen into the matter (ta-tāya'ū fī al-shay'), if they fall into it and rush towards it, and with this the hadith is explained: What makes you rush into lying as moths rush into the fire?
وقيل: هو الإسراع في الشر، ولا يكون إلا في الشر، كما في الصحاح.
And it was said: It is rushing into evil, and it is only in evil, as in Al-Ṣiḥāḥ.
وقال الأزهري: ولم نسمع التتايع في الخير، وقيل: التتايع في الشر كالتتابع في الخير، ويقال في التتايع: إنه اللجاجة، وقيل: هو التهافت فيه، كما في الصحاح، كالتتيع، عن ابن عباد، وهو في نوادر الأعراب.
And Al-Azhari said: And we have not heard al-tatāyu' in good, and it was said: Al-tatāyu' in evil is like al-tatābu' in good, and it is said about al-tatāyu': it is persistence, and it was said: it is falling into it, as in Al-Ṣiḥāḥ, like al-tatawwu', from Ibn 'Abbad, and it is in the rare sayings of the Arabs.
يقال: تتيع على فلان.
It is said: He rushed upon so-and-so (tatawwa'a 'alā fulān).
وتتايع للقيام، إذا استقل له، وأنشد: (فلهف أمه لما رآها تنوء ولا تتايع للقيام)
And he rushed to stand up (tatawwa'a lil-qiyām), if he stood up for it, and he recited: (Alas for his mother when she saw her struggling and not rushing to stand up).
واتايعت الريح بالورق: إذا ذهبت به. قال الأزهري: وأصله تتايعت به.
And the wind carried the leaves (atāyata al-rīḥ bil-waraq): if it went with it. Al-Azhari said: And its origin is (tatāyata bihi).
قال أبو ذؤيب يذكر عقره ناقته، وأنها كاست فخرت على رأسها: (ومفرهة عنس قدرت لساقها فخرت كما تتايع الريح بالقفل) (لحى جياع أو لضيف محول أبادر حمدا أن يلج به قبلي)
Abu Dhu'ayb said, mentioning his slaughtering of his she-camel, and that she fell on her head: (And a spirited, old she-camel, destined for her leg, fell as the wind carries the lock) (The jaws of the hungry or a guest in drought, I hasten to praise before it enters before me).
وقال الأخفش: تتايع: تذهب به. ولا أستتيع بمعنى: لا أستطيع، عن ابن عباد، وهي لغة، أو لثغة، أو بدل.
And Al-Akhfash said: Tatāyu': means to carry it away. And I cannot (lā astati'u) meaning: I cannot (lā astati'u), from Ibn 'Abbad, and it is a dialect, or a lisp, or a substitution.
التيع: ما يسيل على وجه الأرض من جمد ذائب ونحوه.
Al-tay': is what flows on the face of the earth from melted ice and the like.
وشيء تائع: مائع.
And a flowing thing (shay' tā'i'): is liquid.
وتتيع الماء: انبسط على وجه الأرض وتاج السنبل: يبس بعضه وبعضه رطب.
And the water spread out (tatawwa'a al-mā'): it spread on the face of the earth, and the ear of corn dried out, some of it dry and some of it moist.
والسكران يتتايع: يرمي بنفسه سريعا من غير تثبت، وكذا الحيران وقيل: التتايع: الوقوع في الشر من غير فكرة ولا روية.
And the drunkard rushes (yatatāyu'): he throws himself quickly without settling, and so does the bewildered, and it was said: Al-tatāyu': is falling into evil without thought or deliberation.
وتتايع الجمل في مشيه في الحر، إذا حرك ألواحه حتى يكاد ينفك.
And the camel moves unstably (tatāyu') in its walk in the heat, if it moves its sides until it almost falls apart.
وتتايع القوم في الأرض، أي تباعدوا فيها على عي وشدة.
And the people spread out in the land (tatāyu' al-qawm fī al-arḍ), meaning they became distant in it due to hardship and intensity.
