Al-Azhari and Ibn Duraid said: He took this from Al-Layth's book and it passed through the textual corruption that he corrupted and it was corrupted.
والظاهر أن الشيخ ابن بري ثلثهما في التصحيف، فإنه ذكره في أماليه على الصحاح في ترجمة بصع يتبصع، بالصاد المهملة، ولم يذكره الجوهري في صحاحه، مع أنه ذكره ابن بري أيضا موافقا للجوهري في ذكره في ترجمة بضع بالضاد المعجمة.
And it appears that Sheikh Ibn Barra committed them both to textual corruption, for he mentioned it in his dictations on Al-Sihah under the entry 'bas'a' yatabassa'', with the unpointed Sad, and Al-Jawhari did not mention it in his Sihah, even though Ibn Barra also mentioned it, agreeing with Al-Jawhari in mentioning it under the entry 'bid'a' with the pointed Dad.
يقول: الفرس الجواد إذا حركته للعدو أعطاك ما عنده، فإذا حملته على أكثر من ذلك فحركته بساق أو بضرب سوط حملته عزة نفسه على ترك العدو والأخذ في المرح، ثم ينسلخ من ذلك المرح حتى يصير في العدو إلى ما لا يدرى ما قدره، قال: فتأبى عند ذلك إلا أن تعرق.
He says: The noble horse, if you urge it to run, it gives you what it has, and if you push it beyond that and urge it with your leg or a whip, its pride makes it abandon running and engage in spirited play, then it sheds that spiritedness until it returns to running at a pace whose extent is unknown, he said: 'Then it refuses at that point except to sweat'.
