And Al-Azhari said: There is a verb for Al-Ḥaẓẓ from the Arabs, even if Al-Layth did not know it or hear it.
ج في القلة أحظ، كأشد، وأحاظ، على غير قياس، كأنه جمع أحظ، نقله الجوهري، أي في الكثير، وأنشد للشاعر:
Its plural for a small number is 'aḥaẓẓ', like 'ashadd', and 'aḥāẓ', which is irregular, as if it were a plural of 'aḥaẓẓ', narrated by Al-Jawhari, meaning for a large quantity. And he cited the poet:
وليس الغنى والفقر من حيلة الفتى ... ولكن أحاظ قسمت وجدود
Wealth and poverty are not from a person's stratagem... but rather fortunes distributed and destinies.
قال ابن بري: إنما أتاه الغنى لجلادته، وحرم الفقير لعجزه وقلة معرفته، وليس كما ظنوا، بل ذلك من فعل القسام، وهو الله سبحانه وتعالى، لقوله: نحن قسمنا بينهم معيشتهم
Ibn Al-Bari said: His wealth came to him due to his resilience, and the poor man was deprived due to his inability and lack of knowledge. It is not as they thought, but rather it is from the action of the Distributor, who is Allah, the Almighty, according to His saying: 'We have divided among them their livelihood'.
فقلبت الظاء الثانية ياء، فصارت أحظ، ثم جمعت على أحاظ.
So the second ẓāʾ was changed to a yāʾ, becoming 'aḥaẓẓ', then it was pluralized to 'aḥāẓ'.
في الكثير: حظاظ، وحظاء، يكسرهما، الأخير ممدود عن أبي زيد.
For the large quantity: 'ḥaẓāẓ' and 'ḥaẓāʾ', both broken plurals, the latter is elongated according to Abu Zayd.
والحظاظ عن ابن جني وأنشد:
And 'Al-Ḥaẓāẓ' is from Ibn Jinni, and he cited:
وحسد أوشلت من حظاظها ... على أحاسي الغيظ واكتظاظها
And envy of the small creatures from their fortunes... upon the feelings of rage and their congestion.
وقال أبو زيد: جمع الحظ حظ، وحظوظ، وزاد ابن عباد: حظوظة، بضمهن وهي جموع الكثرة،
And Abu Zayd said: The plural of 'Al-Ḥaẓẓ' is 'ḥaẓẓ', and 'ḥuẓūẓ'. And Ibn 'Abbad added: 'ḥuẓūẓah', with their dammah, and these are plurals for abundance.
سبحان من قسم الحظو ... ظ فلا عتاب ولا ملامه
Glory be to Him who divided the fortunes, so there is no reproach and no blame.
ورجل حظ، وحظيظ، نقلهما الجوهري
And a man is 'ḥaẓẓ', and 'ḥaẓīẓ', narrated by Al-Jawhari.
ومنه قول الشهاب المقري في أول قصيدته المشهورة: (سبحان من قسم الحظو ... ظ فلا عتاب ولا ملامه)
And from it is the saying of Al-Shihab Al-Maqqari at the beginning of his famous poem: (Glory be to Him who divided the fortunes, so there is no reproach and no blame).
وهو قول أبي عمر و، أي مجدود ذو حظ من الرزق.
This is the saying of Abu 'Amr, meaning fortunate, possessing a share of sustenance.

والحظظ بضمتين، وكصرد: صمغ كالصبر، وقيل: هو عصارة الشجر المر، وقيل: هو كحل الخولان.
And 'Al-Ḥaẓẓ' with two dammahs, and like 'ṣurad': a gum like aloe, and it is said: it is the bitter tree sap, and it is said: it is the kohl of Al-Khawlan.
قال الأزهري: هو الحدل. وقال الجوهري: هو دواء، وقد مرت لغاته، فصار فيه ست لغات.
Al-Azhari said: It is Al-Hadl. And Al-Jawhari said: It is a medicine, and its variants have passed, so there are six pronunciations for it.
وأنشد شمر على هذه اللغة: أمر من مقر وصبر وحظظ
And Shamir cited on this pronunciation: More bitter than Maqqar, and صبر, and ḥaẓẓ.
وأحظ الرجل: صار ذا حظ وبخت.
And 'aḥaẓẓa al-rajul': the man became possessed of fortune and luck.
قال: الليث: وناس من أهل حمص يقولون للحظ: حنظ، فإذا جمعوا رجعوا إلى! الحظوظ، وتلك النون عندهم غنة، وليست بأصلية.
Al-Layth said: And people from Homs say for 'Al-Ḥaẓẓ': 'Ḥanẓ', and when they pluralize, they return to 'Al-Ḥuẓūẓ', and that noon for them is a nasal sound, not original.
وفلان أحظ من فلان، أي أجد منه، نقله الجوهري.
And so-and-so is 'aḥaẓẓ' than so-and-so, meaning more fortunate than him, narrated by Al-Jawhari.
فأما قولهم: أحظيته عليه فقد يكون من هذا الباب، على أنه من المحول، وقد يكون من الحظوة، وسيأتي في المعتل إن شاء الله تعالى.
As for their saying: 'aḥẓaytuhu 'alayhi', it may be from this category, as being derived from the transformed root, or it may be from 'Al-Ḥaẓwah' (favor), and it will be discussed later in the defective roots, if Allah wills.
وقال أبو الهيثم فيما كتبه لابن بزرج: يقال: هم يحظون بهم ويجدون نقله الأزهري رادا به قول الليث السابق: ولم أسمع من الحظ فعلا.
And Abu Al-Haytham said in what he wrote to Ibn Buzurj: It is said: 'They are 'yaḥẓūna' with them and 'yajidūna' (they find)', narrated by Al-Azhari, refuting Al-Layth's previous statement: 'And I have not heard a verb from Al-Ḥaẓẓ'.
وروى سلمة عن الفراء قال: الحظيظ: الغني الموسر.
And Sallamah narrated from Al-Farra' who said: 'Al-Ḥaẓīẓ': the rich, the wealthy.
وقال غيره: أحظ الرجل، إذا استغنى، كما في العباب والتكملة.
And others said: 'Aḥaẓẓa al-rajul', when he becomes rich, as in Al-'Abāb and Al-Takmilah.
