ج: أنوطة. وإذا لم ترد العدد جاز أن يقال للجمع: نوط، بالضم، لأن الياء التي في النياط واو في الأصل، وقيل: هما نياطان، فالأعلى: نياط الفؤاد والأسفل: الفرج.
Plural: anūṭah. And if the number is not intended, it is permissible to say for the plural: nawṭ, with damma, because the ya' in niyāṭ was originally waw, and it was said: they are two niyāṭs, the upper one: the niyāṭ of the heart, and the lower one: the vulva.
والنائط: عرق ممتد في القلب، كذا في النسخ، وصوابه في الصلب، كما في الصحاح.
And al-nā'iṭ: a vein extending in the heart, as in the manuscripts, and its correction is in the spine, as in Al-Ṣiḥāḥ.
فبج كل عاند نعور قضب الطبيب نائط المصفور
So every stubborn, rebellious one was broken; the doctor cut the vein of the afflicted one.
ومن المجاز: يقال للأرنب: المقطعة النياط كما قالوا: مقطعة الأسحار تفاؤلا، أي نياطها يقطع، هذا على قول من رواه بفتح الطاء.
And from metaphor: The rabbit is called: the severer of veins, as they said: the severer of dawns, as an omen, meaning its veins are severed, this is according to those who narrated it with a fatḥa on the ṭā'.
والنيط كسيد: بئر يجري ماؤها معلقا ينحدر من جوانبها إلى مجمها.
And al-nayṭ, like sayyid: a well whose water flows suspended, descending from its sides to its bottom.
بئر نيط: إذا حفرت فأتى الماء من جانب منها فسال إلى قعرها ولم تعن من قعرها بشيء
A nayṭ well: if it is dug and water comes from one side of it and flows to its bottom without being drawn from its bottom with anything.
لا تستقي دلاؤها من نيط ولا بعيد قعرها مخروط
Its buckets do not draw water from a nayṭ, nor is its bottom far and conical.
والنوط: العلاوة بين عدلين، وهو قول أبي عبيدة، نصه: العلاوة بين الفردين، وقال الزمخشري: سميت العلاوة نوطا لأنها تناط بالوقر.
And al-nawṭ: the yoke between two panniers, and this is the saying of Abu Ubaidah, his text: the yoke between the two individuals, and Al-Zamakhshari said: the yoke is called nawṭ because it is hung to the load.

And to hear the Bahrainis call the small packs that are hung by their straps from the loads of the حملة: niyāṭan, singular nawṭ.
فأهدوا له نوطا من تعضوض هجر أي أهدوا له جلة صغيرة من تمر التعضوض.
So they presented him with a nawṭ of Ta'ḍūḍ Hajar, meaning they presented him with a small bag of Ta'ḍūḍ dates.
إن أعيا البعير فزده نوطا.

وإنا لبنوطة، فجاء بجار الضبع، أي بسيل يجر الضبع من كثرته.
And we were in a nawṭah, so a torrent came carrying the hyena, meaning a flood that dragged the hyena due to its abundance.
والنوطة: ما بين العجز والمتن، وهو النوط، كما في الصحاح.
And al-nawṭah: what is between the rump and the back, and it is al-nawṭ, as in Al-Ṣiḥāḥ.
والتنواط بالفتح: ما يعلق من الهودج يزين به.

And you are an adopted one, hung among the family of Hashim, as the single cup is hung behind the rider.
منوط مذبذب سمي مذبذبا لأنه لا يدري إلى من ينتمي، فالريح تذبذبه يمينا وشمالا.
A wavering manūṭ, called wavering because he does not know to whom he belongs, so the wind wavers him right and left.
والنيطة، ككيسة: البعير ترسله مع الممتارين ليحمل لك عليه
And al-nayṭah, like kaysah: a camel you send with traders to carry for you.
وقد استناط فلان بعيره فلانا، فانتاط هو له، قاله أبو عمر و.
And so-and-so sent his camel with so-and-so, and it became attached for him, said Abu Amr.
والتنوط، كالتكرم، كذا ضبط في نسخة الصحاح. ويقال أيضا التنوط بضم التاء وفتح النون وكسر الواو، نقله الجوهري أيضا: طائر نحو القارية سوادا، تركب عشها بين عودين أو على عود واحد، فتطيل عشها فلا يصل الرجل إلى بيضها حتى يدخل يده إلى المنكب.
And al-tanawwuṭ, like takarrum, as it is noted in the manuscript of Al-Ṣiḥāḥ. And it is also said al-tanawwuṭ with damma on the ṭā', fatḥa on the nūn, and kasra on the waw, as transmitted by Al-Jauhari: a bird, black like the qāriyah, builds its nest between two sticks or on one stick, and lengthens its nest so that a man cannot reach its eggs until he puts his hand up to his shoulder.
تقطع أعناق التنوط بالضحى وتفرس في الظلماء أفعى الأجارع
They sever the necks of the tanawwuṭ at noon and hunt snakes in the dark of the pastures.

Neither one nor the other, but rather nayṭan between the two waters, meaning a middle ground between abundant and scarce, as if it were suspended between them.
وانتطت المفازة: بعدت، وهو على القلب من انتاطت

وبلدة نياطها - نطي أراد نيط فقلب، كما قالوا في جمع قوس: قسي.
And a land whose distance is niyāṭ - nayṭ, meaning niyṭ and it was inverted, as they said for the plural of qaws: qisiyy.

It is the name of a specific samrah tree that the polytheists used to hang their weapons on, meaning they would hang them and circumambulate around it.
ويقال: نوطة من طلح، كما يقال: عيص من سدر، وأيكة من أثل، وفرش من عرفط، ووهط من عشر، وغال من سلم، وسليل من سمر، وقصيمة من غضى، ومن رمث، وصريمة من غضى، ومن سلم، وحرجة من شجر، انتهى.
And it is said: a nawṭah of talḥ, as it is said: an 'ayṣ of sidr, an āyikah of athl, a farsh of 'urfūṭ, a wahṭ of 'ishr, a ghāl of sallam, a salīl of samr, a qaṣīmah of ghaḍā, and of ramth, a ṣarīmah of ghaḍā, and of sallam, and a ḥarajah of trees, ended.
ويقال: عرق مناط عذاره.
And it is said: a vein from which its bridle is hung.
وأبطأ حتى نوط الروح، وهذا مجاز.
And he was delayed until the soul was hung, and this is a metaphor.
غاية منتاطة، أي بعيدة.
A distant goal, meaning far away.
والنائطة: الحوصلة، نقله الصاغاني.
And al-nā'iṭah: the gizzard, transmitted by Al-Saghani.
كل شاة برجلها ستناط أي كل جان يؤخذ بجنايته.
Every sheep will be hung by its leg, meaning every wrongdoer will be taken for his offense.
