And al-namat also: the type of a thing and its kind.
يقال: ليس هذا من ذلك النمط، أي من ذلك النوع والضرب، يقال هذا في المتاع والعلم وغير ذلك.
It is said: This is not of that namat, meaning of that type and kind. This is said regarding goods, knowledge, and other things.
والنمط أيضا: جماعة من الناس أمرهم واحد، نقله الجوهري، وأورد الحديث خير هذه الأمة النمط الأوسط يلحق بهم التالي، ويرجع إليهم الغالي.
And al-namat also: a group of people who have one affair. Al-Jawhari transmitted it, and cited the hadith: The best of this ummah is the middle namat; the one following will join them, and the one going to extremes will return to them.
خير الناس هذا النمط الأوسط.
The best of people is this middle namat.
أنه كره الغلو والتقصير في الدين.
That he disliked extremism and falling short in religion.
والنمط: ثوب صوف يطرح على الهودج، له خمل رقيق.
And al-namat: a woolen cloth placed on the howdah, having a fine pile.
النمط عند العرب: ضرب من الثياب المصبغة، ولا يكادون يقولون نمط إلا لما كان ذا لون من حمرة أو خضرة أو صفرة، فأما البياض فلا يقال له نمط.
Al-namat among the Arabs: a type of dyed clothing, and they hardly call anything namat unless it has a color of redness, greenness, or yellowness; as for whiteness, it is not called namat.

يقال: من نمط لك هذا، أي من دلك عليه، عن ابن عباد.
It is said: Who tanmata lahu this? meaning, who indicated it to you? from Ibn Abbad.
وعساء النميط: كزبير: واد بالدهناء ينبت ضروبا من النبات ويقال: بالباء أيضا، وقد تقدم في ن ب ط، وقد ذكره ذو الرمة في قوله:
And Asa' al-Namit: like Zubayr: a valley in Al-Dahna that grows various kinds of plants, and it is said: with Ba' also. It was previously mentioned under N-B-T, and Dhu al-Rummah mentioned it in his verse:
فأضحت بوعساء النميط كأنها ... ذرا الأثل من وادي القرى أو نخيلها
So it became in Asa' al-Namit as if it were... the tamarisk mounds of Wadi al-Qura or its palm trees.
فقال أراها بالنميط كأنها ... نخيل القرى جباره وأطاوله
So he said, 'I see them in Al-Namit as if they were... the tall and towering palm trees of Al-Qura.'
