And the correct origin is from the Berbers in the farthest west of the Greater Sahara, to which shields are attributed, because, as Ibn Marwan claimed, they hunt wild animals and soak the hides in fresh milk for a full year, then they make them into shields, so that the sharp sword bounces off them.

Or Lamṭ: the name of a nation among nations, said Al-Khawarizmi, and he recited: If you were from Nubia or from Lamṭ
والصحيح أنها من البربر، وهي عدة قبائل أخرجت من فلسطين، ونزلت بالمغرب، وتناسلت فسميت بهم الأماكن التي نزلوها
And the correct view is that they are from the Berbers, and they are several tribes who were expelled from Palestine, settled in the Maghreb, and multiplied, so the places they settled were named after them.
ولمط هذا تزوج العرجاء أم صنهاج، فأولد منها لمطا الأصغر، فهما أخوان لأم.
And this Lamṭ married Al-ʿArjāʾ, the mother of Ṣinnāhāj, and she bore him the younger Lamṭ, so they are uterine brothers.
وقال أبو زيد: التمط فلان بحقي، إذا ذهب به نقله، الصاغاني عن أبي زيد.
And Abu Zayd said: Faulān tamatta bi-ḥaqqī, if he took it away and moved it. Al-Ṣāghānī narrated from Abu Zayd.
