فقال: أضب القوم في بغيتهم، أي في ضالتهم، إذا تفرقوا في طلبها.

So he said: The people dispersed in their pursuit, meaning in their lost thing, if they dispersed in seeking it.

وعن ابن عباد: اشمعطت الخيل، إذا ركضت تبادر إلى شيء تطلبه.

And from Ibn 'Abbad: The horses rushed and scattered, if they ran, hastening towards something they seek.

وفي التكملة: اشماطت، وقد ذكرناه قريبا.

And in Al-Takmilah: 'ishmaatat', and we have mentioned it recently.

واشمعطت الإبل: انتشرت، كاشمعلت، عن أبي تراب.

And the camels spread out: they dispersed, like 'ishma'allat', from Abu Turab.

واشمعط الذكر: نعظ، عن الأزهري، والسين لغة فيه.
