And 'shahṭa' someone, if he overtook him, passed him, and moved far away from him. In Al-Tahdhib: it is said: So-and-so came out ahead, having outstripped the horses, meaning he passed them.

ويقال: شحطت بنو هاشم العرب، أي فاتوهم فضلا وسبقوهم

And it is said: Banu Hashim outstripped the Arabs, meaning they surpassed them in merit and preceded them.

وشحط الحبلة، إذا وضع إلى جنبها خشبة حتى ترتفع إليها، قاله أبو الخطاب

And 'shahṭa' the vine tendril, if a stick is placed next to it so it can rise to it, said Abu Al-Khattab.

And 'shahṭa' the container and 'shamṭahu': to fill it, according to Al-Farra'.

And the spring rain has begun to grow between us... and between Banu Dūdan, 'nab'' and 'shūḥaṭ'.
