And their saying: The pattern is fa'ul with the fatḥa is nonsensical speech, as place names do not have a rule to refer back to until it is known, let alone to be claimed.
قلت: أما المشهور على ألسنة العامة من أهلها: {سيوط، كصبور، وهو الذي أنكره شيخنا، وعلى ألسنة الخاصة} أسيوط، بالفتح، وعلى الأخير اقتصر ياقوت في معجمه.
I say: As for what is famous on the tongues of the common people of its inhabitants: 'Siyut', like 'sabur', which is what our shaykh denied, and on the tongues of the elite} 'Asyut', with the fatḥa, and on the latter, Yaqut limited himself in his dictionary.
وقوله: ة، عجيب من المصنف أن يجعل هذه المدينة العظيمة قرية، وكأنه قلد الصاغاني فيما قال، ولكن في العباب قرية جليلة، فلو قيدها بها على عادته في بعض القرى أصاب.
And his saying: 'a village', it is strange for the author to make this great city a village, as if he followed al-Saghani in what he said, but in al-'Abab it is a noble village, so if he had qualified it with that, as is his custom with some villages, he would have been correct.

وصورت الدنيا للرشيد فلم يستحسن إلا كورة أسيوط، وبها ثلاثون ألف فدان في استواء من الأرض لو وقعت فيها قطرة ماس لانتشرت في جميعها لا يظمأ فيها شبر.
And the world was depicted for al-Rashid, and he did not find favor except with the province of Asyut, and it has thirty thousand feddans of flat land, such that if a drop of musk fell on it, it would spread throughout, and not a span of it would be thirsty.
وكانت إحدى متنزهات أبي الجيش خمارويه بن أحمد بن طولون، وينسب إليها جماعة، منهم: أبو الحسن علي بن الخضر بن عبد الله {- الأسيوطي، توفي سنة.
