Al-Būṭah, with dammah, was neglected by Al-Jawhari. Al-Layth said: it is that which, and in Al-'Ayn: that in which [something] is melted, and in Al-'Ayn: that in which the goldsmith and similar craftsmen work.
قال شيخنا: وظاهره أنها عربية، وليس كذلك بل هو معرب أصله بوته، كما في شفاء الغليل.
Our Sheikh said: its apparent meaning is that it is Arabic, but it is not so; rather, it is a loanword whose origin is 'būteh', as mentioned in Shifā' al-Ghalīl.

And Bwayṭ, like 'zubayr', and it is said: Abwayṭ, with fatḥah, then sukūn, and fatḥah on the wāw, as in the dictionary, and the first is more common: a town in Egypt, from the districts of Lower Upper Egypt, from the province of Asyut.

And Ibn Al-A'rabi said: A man 'bāṭa', if he becomes poor after wealth, and humiliated after honor, then he 'yabūṭu' 'buwṭan'.
وبواط، كغراب، قال شيخنا: وضبطها أهل السير وشراح البخاري بالفتح، كسحاب أيضا: جبال جهينة، من ناحية ذي خشب، وفي المعجم: ناحية رضوى، على ثلاثة أبراد من المدينة المشرفة، أو أكثر.
And Buwāṭ, like 'ghurāb', our Sheikh said: the biographers and commentators of Bukhari have vocalized it with fatḥah, like 'saḥāb' also: mountains of Juhaynah, from the region of Dhi Khashab, and in the dictionary: the region of Radwa, three days' journey from the honored Medina, or more.
ومنه غزوة بواط، من غزواته، صلى الله عليه وسلم، اعترض فيها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لعير قريش، فانتهى إليه، ولم يلق أذى.
And from it is the Expedition of Buwat, from his expeditions, peace be upon him, in which the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, intercepted a Quraysh caravan, reached it, and encountered no harm.
وقال حسان بن ثابت، رضي الله عنه: (لمن الدار أقفرت ببواط ... غير سفع رواكد كالغطاط)
And Hassan ibn Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him, said: (To whom belongs the desolate dwelling at Buwat... like stationary clouds resembling downpours)
بويط، ويقال أبويط: قرية أخرى بالأبوصيرية، وهي غير التي ذكرت، وقيل: إليها نسب البويطي الفقيه.
Bwayṭ, and it is said Abwayṭ: another village in Al-Abusiriyyah, and it is different from the one mentioned, and it is said: the jurist Al-Buwayti was attributed to it.
وكفر باويط: من قرى الأشمونين.
