زلت به إلى الحضيض قدمه

And 'al-ḥaḍaḍ', like 'zufar', and 'unuq', both from Ibn Durayd, and this is how Al-Jawhari and Ibn Sidah vocalized it, and in other variants, Abu Ubayd narrated from Al-Yazidi: 'al-ḥaḍaḍ', 'al-ḥaẓẓ', 'al-ḥaẓaẓ', and 'al-ḥaẓaẓ'.
قال شمر: ولم أسمع الضاد مع الظاء إلا في هذا.
Shammir said: And I have not heard the ḍād with the ẓāʾ except in this.
وقال ابن بري: قال ابن خالويه: الحظظ والحظظ: وزاد الخليل: الحضظ، بضاد بعدها ظاء.
And Ibn Barrī said: Ibn Khālawayh said: 'al-ḥaẓẓ' and 'al-ḥaẓaẓ': and Al-Khalil added: 'al-ḥaḍẓ', with a ḍād followed by a ẓāʾ.
وقال أبو عمر الزاهد: الحضذ، بالضاد والذال، روى ابن الأثير هذه الأوجه ما خلا الضاد والذال.
And Abu Umar Al-Zahid said: 'al-ḥaḍhḍh', with ḍād and dhāl, Ibn Al-Athir narrated these forms except for the ḍād and dhāl.
وهو عصارة شجر، وهو نوعان: العربي، منه عصارة الخولان، ويعرف بالمكي أيضا، يطبخ فيجعل في أجربة، وهو الأجود، قال: والهندي عصارة شجرة الفيلزهرج.
It is the sap of a tree, and it is of two types: the Arabi, from it is the sap of Al-Khawlan, and it is also known as Al-Makki, it is cooked and put into skins, and it is the best, he said: and the Hindi is the sap of the Filzahraj tree.
المقر يخرج منه الصبر أولا، ثم الحضض، ثم ثفله
The resinous exudation first comes out of it, then the 'al-ḥaḍaḍ', then its dregs.
ويغش المكي بالدبس البصري المغلى فيه صبر، ومر، وزعفران، وعروق ماء الآس، وماء قشور الرمان.
And the Makki is adulterated with Basran molasses in which myrrh, saffron, roots of myrtle water, and pomegranate peel water are boiled.
ويغش الهندي بعصارة الأمبر باريس، يطبخ بالماء حتى يجمد، وكلاهما، أي النوعين نافع للأورام الرخوة والخوارة، والقروح والنفاخات والنملة والخبثة والدواحس خاصة بماء ورد، وهو يشد الأعضاء، وينفع من القلاع.
And the Hindi is adulterated with the sap of Ambergris, cooked with water until it solidifies, and both types are beneficial for soft swellings, weakness, sores, blisters, anthrax, malignant sores, and boils, especially with rose water, and it strengthens the limbs, and benefits thrush.
والرمد، وغشاوة العين، وجرب العين، والجذام، والبواسير، وشقوق السفل، والإسهال، واليرقان الأسود، والطحال، شربا وضمادا، ولسع الهوام والخوانيق غرغرة بمائه.
And ophthalmia, film over the eye, eye mange, leprosy, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, diarrhea, black jaundice, and spleen, taken internally and as a poultice, and insect stings and sore throats, gargled with its water.
الهندي منه يشفي من عضة الكلب الكلب طلاء وشربا كل يوم نصف مثقال بماء.
The Hindi among it cures hydrophobia from a dog bite, applied externally and taken internally, half a mithqal daily with water.
وفي الهندي تحليل وقبض يسير ينفع كل نزف، هو يغزر الشعر ويحمره ويقويه، ويقال: المكي أجود للأورام، والهندي أجود للشعر.
And in the Hindi there is a تحلیل (analysis) and slight astringency that benefits all bleeding; it thickens the hair, reddens it, and strengthens it, and it is said: The Makki is better for swellings, and the Hindi is better for hair.
قيل: هو نبات يعمل بعصارته هذا الدواء، وقال ابن دريد: هو صمغ من نحو الصنوبر والمر وما أشبههما، مما له ثمرة كالفلفل، وتسمى شجرته الحضض.
It is said: It is a plant from whose sap this medicine is made, and Ibn Durayd said: It is a resin from pine, myrrh, and similar substances, which has a fruit like pepper, and its tree is called 'al-ḥaḍaḍ'.
وفي حديث سليمان بن مطير إذا أنا برجل قد جاء كأنه يطلب دواء أو حضضا.
And in the narration of Sulayman bin Mutayr: 'If I see a man who comes as if he is seeking medicine or 'al-ḥaḍaḍ'.
وقيل: هو دواء آخر يتخذ من أبوال الإبل، قاله الليث.
And it is said: It is another medicine made from camel urine, said by Al-Layth.
والحضوض، كصبور: نهر كان بين القادسية والحيرة.
And 'al-ḥuḍūḍ', like 'ṣabūr': a river that was between Al-Qadisiyyah and Al-Hirah.
الحضحض كقنفذ: نبت، عن أبي مالك.
'Al-ḥaḍḥaḍ' like 'qunfudh': a plant, from Abu Malik.
وحضوضى كشرورى، ويقال أيضا: حضوض، مثل صبور: جبل في البحر أو جزيرة فيه، كانت العرب تنفي إليه خلعاءها، كما في العباب والتكملة.
And 'ḥaḍūḍā' like 'shurūrā', and it is also said: 'ḥaḍūḍ', like 'ṣabūr': a mountain in the sea or an island therein, to which the Arabs used to exile their outcasts, as in Al-ʿAbbāb and Al-Takmilah.
والحضوضى: البعد، عن ابن عباد.
And 'al-ḥaḍūḍā': distance, from Ibn ʿAbbād.
والحضوضى: النار، عنه أيضا.
And 'al-ḥaḍūḍā': fire, also from him.
والحضوضاة: الضوضاة، عنه أيضا.
And 'al-ḥuḍūḍāh': clamor, also from him.
ما عنده حضض ولا بضض، محركتين، أي شيء عنه أيضا.
He has neither 'ḥaḍaḍ' nor 'baḍaḍ', both vocalized with harakah, meaning anything, also from him.
أخرجت إليه حضيضتي وبضيضتي، أي ملك يدي، عنه أيضا.
I brought out to him my 'ḥaḍīḍah' and my 'baḍīḍah', meaning my possessions, also from him.
والمحاضة: أن يحض، أي يحث كل واحد منهما صاحبه.
And 'al-muḥāḍḍah': is to urge, meaning each of them urges his companion.
وقرأ شعبة بن الحجاج ولا يحاضون على طعام المسكين بالتحتية المضمومة.
And Shuʿbah bin Al-Ḥajjāj recited 'wa lā yuḥāḍḍūna' (with a dammah on the taʾ) concerning the food of the poor.
وقرأ ابن المبارك بالمثناة الفوفية المضمومة.
And Ibn Al-Mubārak recited with a dammah on the initial taʾ.
وقرأ أهل المدينة: ولا يحضون، وقرأ الحسن: ولا تحضون.
And the people of Medina recited: 'wa lā yuḥaḍḍūna', and Al-Ḥasan recited: 'wa lā tuḥaḍḍūna'.
والتحاض: التحاث، وبه قرأ الأعمش، وعاصم، ويزيد بن القعقاع، ولا تحاضون بالفتح.
And 'at-taḥāḍḍ': is 'at-taḥāthth', and with this meaning, Al-Aʿmash, ʿĀṣim, and Yazīd bin Al-Qaʿqāʿ recited 'wa lā tuḥāḍḍūna' with fatḥah.
فمن قرأ: تحاضون فمعناه تحافظون، ومن قرأ: تحاضون فمعناه يحض بعضكم بعضا، ومن قرأ تحضون فمعناه تأمرون بإطعامه.
So whoever recites 'tuḥāḍḍūna' means 'you preserve', and whoever recites 'tuḥāḍḍūna' means 'you urge each other', and whoever recites 'tuḥaḍḍūna' means 'you command to feed him'.
واحتضضت نفسي لفلان: استزدتها، كابتضضت.
And 'iḥtaḍaḍtu' myself for so-and-so: I urged myself, like 'ibtāḍaḍtu'.
ائتضضت، عن ابن الفرج.
'Ittaḍaḍtu', from Ibn Al-Faraj.
الحضي، بالضم: الحجر الذي تجده بحضيض الجبل، وهو منسوب كالسهلي والدهري، نقله الجوهري عن الأصمعي، وكذا الصاغاني في كتابيه، وصاحب اللسان.
'Al-ḥuḍiyy', with ḍammah: the stone that you find at the base of the mountain, and it is attributed like 'as-suhaliyy' and 'ad-dahriyy', narrated by Al-Jawhari from Al-Asmaʿi, and so did Al-Ṣāghānī in his two books, and the author of Al-Lisān.
وأحمر حضي: شديد الحمرة، كما في اللسان.
And a 'ḥaḍiyy' red: intensely red, as in Al-Lisān.
والنسبة حضضي. ومنهم سلمة بن الحارث - الحضضي، الذي شهد فتح مصر.
And the attribution is 'ḥaḍaḍiyy'. And among them is Salamah bin Al-Ḥārith - 'Al-Ḥaḍaḍiyy', who witnessed the conquest of Egypt.
