Al-Layth states its pattern is 'fa'alī' and says: it is a bird in Iraq, resembling the goshawk except it has longer wings than the goshawk and is a more vicious hunter, or it is the 'al-hurr'.
ونص الليث: وهو الحر.
And Al-Layth specifies: it is the 'al-hurr'.
وقال أبو حاتم في كتاب الطير قال الطائفي أو غيره: الحر من الصقور شبه البازي، يضرب إلى الخضرة، أصفر الرجلين والمنقار، صائد.
And Abu Hatim said in the Book of Birds, Al-Taʼifi or another said: 'Al-hurr' is from the falcons, resembling the goshawk, tending towards green, with yellow legs and beak, a hunter.
وقال آخرون: بل الحر: الصقر، كذا في العباب.
And others said: rather, 'al-hurr' is the falcon, as stated in Al-Abab.
ثم إن المصنف قد أعاده أيضا في وص ي إشارة إلى وقوع الاختلاف في مادته ووزنه، وسيأتي الكلام عليه هناك إن شاء الله تعالى.
