أو يعنون بالماص راضع الغنم من أخلافها بفيه لؤما.

Or they mean by 'al-mas' one who sucks the sheep's teats with his mouth out of baseness.

يقال: رجل مصان، وملجان ومكان، كل هذا من المص، يعنون أنه يرضع الغنم من اللؤم لا يحتلبها فيسمع صوت الحلب، فلهذا قيل: لئيم راضع.

It is said: A man is 'masan', 'maljan', and 'makan', all of this is from 'al-mas', meaning he sucks the sheep out of baseness, not milking them so he hears the sound of milking, hence it is said: a base sucker.

ويلي على ماصان بن ماصان، وماصانة بن ماصانة، يعنون اللئيم ابن اللئم.

Woe upon Masan son of Masan, and Masanah daughter of Masanah, meaning the ignoble son of the ignoble.

الماصة: داء يأخذ الصبي من شعرات تنبت منثنية على سناسن الفقار، فلا ينجع فيه أكل ولا شرب حتى تنتف تلك الشعرات من أصولها.

Al-masah: A disease that affects infants from fine hairs that grow bent on the gums, so neither eating nor drinking benefits them until those hairs are plucked from their roots.

والمصاص، بالضم: نبات، كذا في الصحاح، ولم يحله، قيل: هو على نبتة الكولان، ينبت في الرمل، واحدته مصاصة.

And 'al-masas', with damma: a plant, as in Al-Sihah, and it did not explain it. It is said: it is like the 'kulan' plant, growing in sand, its singular is 'masasah'.

It is a plant that grows as fine threads, or it is the dried udder.

Al-masas: The pure essence of everything. It is said: 'So-and-so is the 'masas' of his people', if he is the purest of them in lineage, it is the same for singular, dual, plural, masculine, and feminine, as in Al-Sihah.

And 'al-musoos', like 'saboor': a dish of meat cooked and soaked in vinegar, or it is said: soaked in vinegar then cooked, and from it is the hadith of Ali, may God bless him: that he used to eat 'musoos' with vinegar of wine.

أو يكون المصصوص من لحم الطير خاصة، كما أن الخلع من لحوم الأنعام خاصة.

Or 'al-musoos' is specifically from bird meat, just as 'al-khala'' is specifically from the meat of livestock.

والمصوص بفتح الميم: طعام، والعامة تضمه وعبارة النهاية تقتضي أنه بضم الميم، فإنه قال: ويحتمل فتح الميم، ويكون فعولا من المص.

And 'al-masoos', with fatha on the 'meem': a dish, and the common people pronounce it with damma, and the wording of Al-Nihayah implies it is with damma, as it said: and it is possible to have fatha on the 'meem', and it is 'f'ool' from 'al-mas'.

المصوص: المرأة تحرص على الرجل عند الجماع، عن ابن عباد، وقيل: هي التي يمتص رحمها الماء.

Al-musoos: A woman who is eager for a man during intercourse, from Ibn Abbad, and it is said: she is one whose womb absorbs water.

قيل المصوص: الفرج المنشفة لما على الذكر من البلة.

It is said 'al-musoos': the vagina that dries the moisture from the penis.

والمصوصة والممصوصة: المرأة المهزولة، الثانية عن الزمخشري: واقتصر أبو زيد على الأولى، وزاد: من داء قد خامرها، كما رواه ابن السكيت عنه، وزاد غيره: كأنها مصت، وهو مجاز.

And 'al-masoosah' and 'al-mamsoosah': the emaciated woman, the second from Al-Zamakhshari: Abu Zayd limited himself to the first, and added: from a disease that has afflicted her, as narrated by Ibn Al-Sikkit from him, and others added: as if she has been sucked, and this is metaphorical.

والمصمصة: المضمضة. يقال: مصمص فاه، ومضمضه، بمعنى واحد، وقيل: الفرق بينهما أن المصمصة بطرف اللسان، والمضمضة بالفم كله، وهذا شبيه بالفرق بين القبصة والقبضة.

And 'al-musmasah': rinsing the mouth. It is said: 'masmasa fah', and 'madmadah', with the same meaning, and it is said: the difference between them is that 'al-musmasah' is with the tip of the tongue, and 'al-madmadah' is with the whole mouth, and this is similar to the difference between 'al-qabsah' and 'al-qabdah'.

أمرنا أن نمصمص من اللبن ولا نمضمض. هو من ذلك.

We were commanded to 'numasmas' from milk and not to 'numadmad'. It is from that.

كنا نتوضأ مما غيرت النار، ونمصمص من اللبن، ولا نمصمص من التمر.

We used to perform ablution from what fire had changed, and 'numasmas' from milk, and not 'numasmas' from dates.

والقتل في سبيل الله ممصمصة الذنوب، أي ممحصتها ومطهرتها.

And killing in the path of God is 'mamsamasat' of sins, meaning it purifies and cleanses them.

وعندي معناه أي مطهرة وغاسلة، وقد تكرر العرب الحرف وأصله معتل، أي فهو من الموص.

And in my opinion, its meaning is purifying and washing, and the Arabs have repeated the letter, and its origin is weak, meaning it is from 'al-mawṣ'.

وإنما أنثها والقتل مذكر، لأنه أراد معنى الشهادة، أو أراد خصلة ممصمصة، فأقام الصفة مقام الموصوف.

And it is feminine, while 'al-qatl' (killing) is masculine, because he intended the meaning of martyrdom, or he intended a purifying quality, so he substituted the adjective for the noun.

وتمصصه، إذا ترشفه.

And 'tamassasahu', if you sip it.

مصه في مهلة، كما في الصحاح.
