And Ibn al-A'rābī said: a man 'alūṣ: he has al-lawā.

فمر بطبيب فقاله له: يا آسي، أتيت بفيخة فيها زغبد، فنشت منه بمعو، فأصبحت علوصا.

So he passed by a physician and said to him: O healer, I had a dish with froth in it, I felt a pang from it, and I became indigested.

فقال له الطبيب: عليك بحرقف وشرقف فاشربه بماء قرقف.

So the physician said to him: Take harqaf and sharqaf, and drink it with qarqaf water.

فقال له أبو علقمة: ويحك ما هذا الدواء فقال: هذا تفعير مثل تقعيرك، وصفت ما لا أعرفه، فأجبتك لما لا تعرفه.

So Abu 'Alqamah said to him: Woe to you, what is this medicine? He said: This is a pompous speech like your pompous speech; you described what I do not know, so I answered you with what you do not know.

وعلصت التخمة في معدته تعليصا، من ذلك.

And the indigestion affected his stomach, causing indigestion, from this.

وقال ابن عباد: العليص، كجميز: نبت يؤتدم به، ويتخذ منه المرق.

And Ibn 'Abbād said: Al-'alīṣ, like 'jamīz': a plant used as a condiment, and broth is made from it.

يقال: اعتلص منه شيئا، إذا أخذه منه علصة، وهي إلى القلة ما هي.

It is said: He seized something from him, if he took a small amount from him, and it is towards scarcity.

والعلاص: المضاربة، قال ابن العقنقل: (وإنك في الحروب إذا ألمت ... تعاصي مرهفا فيها علاصا)

And al-'alāṣ: striking, Ibn al-'Uqnqul said: (And you, when wars approach... you fight fiercely with a sharp sword).

ومما يستدرك عليه: إنه لعلوص، أي متخم، كما يقال: إن به لعلوصا.

And among what is added to it: Indeed, he is 'alūṣ, meaning full (indigested), as it is said: Indeed, he has indigestion.

ويقال: إنه لمعلوص، يعني له اللوى أو التخمة.

And it is said: Indeed, he is ma'lūṣ, meaning he has al-lawā or indigestion.

والعلص كالعلوص، عن ابن بري.

And al-'alaṣ is like al-'alūṣ, from Ibn Barrī.
